Default Turbo vs. Blower

Tonight I was at my buddys shop and have to say I am kind of split on which way to go. Here is a photo of a little turbo and a 98mm turbo and a little blower that appeared out of now where

I picked up the 98mm and it was heavy as hell, I picked up the blower and it was about 1/3 of the weight.

So from a weight to power ratio what do you all think is the way to go?

heres the thing ive been told. if your running an automatic run a turbo and for an m6 run a blower. personally even though im keeping the m6 in still running a big turbo. they say with an m6 car you will loose spool inbetween shifts with a turbo unless you are awesome at shifting. ive told from numerous people that turbos are more cost effective iand in the long run will save you a lot of money but will be more up front. then with the procharger f1 that i was going to do i would have to special pullies and brackets made and its going to be expensive anyways and from what i also hear they are a pain in the *** to mount. also from what i hear turbo internals last longer. keep in mind to anyone that will say anything about what i just said, this is all from what people have told me not from personal experiance since my car isnt finished.

I just got done with a year long what to do and ended up turbo. It looks like it will be more up front work but pay off in the end.

For me it seems the turbo would be less expensive, although I'd have to say the 98mm turbo I picked up weighed a lot, I know a lot of people don't care but I am trying to keep my car on the light side, I cut off the entire chassis for a reason, to go as fast as I can with the power I can make and adding two 40 or 50 pound turbos on the front isn't ideal for what I want.

I'll have to look more into rear mount duals. The 136mm blower I was looking it as around 4k, I can get two 80mm turbos for 1,800, maybe a little less so there is a difference in the cost right there.

For you ragen, but a big *** whipple on top of the BBC, just chop a hole in the hood and be done with it. 20 psi out of the big whipple on say a 509BBC, good luck using it all.

I thought about cutting my legs off at the hip and using hand controls to save some weight what do you think

I think I'll be able to run a good amount of power with a tube frame 4 link 25.2 on a 33x17.

If I run what I want to run with my current nitrous motor I might end up swapping out pistons with the same motor and doing a large frame single turbo.......

Well figure it this way..... If you have a supercharger are you going to run exhaust????? Like mufflers and crap..... probably....

with a turbo you are going to run a downpipe(s)... no muffs required. Just the weight you save in not running exhaust and muffs are going to make up the difference in supercharger/turbo decision...

Depends how big the turbo is, if the thing is big enough it doesn't do the muffling job that you think it will, and you'll get stuck running something, at least if you want to drive it.

Ragen, I wasn't trying to be an ***, I was very serious. You're building esentially a outlaw car from the sounds of it, just put a big hood scoop on it, or cut around a big blower and stick it on there. They're reliable and proven, a whipple or a 1471 would easily make enough power to go as fast as you want.

I honestly don't want to lose a lot of the hood clearance, a sunoco wide style hood looks nice and I can't imagine how bad it would be trying to drive around with a 14-71 and bird catcher sticking out lol.

I'm considering rear mount turbo, at least I can have the turbos and intercooler in the rear of the car and keep the weight off the front, plus it would be 200 times easier working on the motor, checking plugs of that stuff.

Also I could use a electric oil pump for the turbos and run a separate small 1-2 gallon tank for the turbos and they could still gravity drain and it would be in the back, so if it did leak or fail, I'd oil the track, but at least not my tires.

I had a buddy lose a hose on the top end and he put his car on the roof at the 1,000 ft mark and it wasn't a good way to make a 9 second pass lol.
