The rails look good. You can tell there's some aligning that needs to be done on the hood. I'm not sure if that's fitment or casting?

98 Silver Bullet, your car is very cool. I think your hood looks fine too. I'll be happy if mine turns out that well.

here's my hood done with dzus fasteners and not rails..... I think it came out "okay"... but i'm with silver as it does leave alot on the table as far as AWESOME fit.....

I know it's a pin on deal but VFN might need to take a look at the quality check on these hood when they go out.... FWIW, my hood did not come with the 90 degree lip on it that you all have been having to take off. might be the difference between LT1 sunoco's and LS1 versions....

here ya go...

The LT1 hoods do not have the lip and don't fit nearly as well as the LS1 hoods do. I have the same hood as you and it's going to require ALOT of trimming to make it fit right. On the other hand a buddy of mine has the same hood for an LS1 and it damn near fits perfect and has the lip. The only advantage we have is the fact that we do not need to remove the lip for the racecraft rails like most guys do. I do think the LT1 style hood feels very cheap and flimsy though...

I'm with you on that..... I bolted mine up at first.... Took about three inches off the back (near the windshield) total but one inch at a time with mockups between cuts....

Once I got it where I liked it I started the bracketry. mocked, fit, mocked, fit about 400 or 500 times.... Then in the front I had to trim with a very fine dremel cutting wheel to get teh edge straight on the passenger side nose to line up with the dvr's side (gap between front bumper cover and hood was NOT even)... So I made it even with a dremel. Even now if you're up close you can see some issues if you're doing an inspection but it's about 95%....

And I purposely kept the front end dzus fasteners down low so the hood drops about an 1/8" lower than the nose to specifically keep the hood edge out of the windstream if it decides to become a wing at 150 MPH.... I don't want any chance of it blowing off...

Speaking of flimsy I wonder how much flex agent my painter is going to have to put in the paint to avoid the hood showing flex lines in the paint.... Without that rail it makes the hood pretty bendable...

I think another difference is that the LS1 hoods have body countours where the headlights are.

I know once I remove the lip on my VFN, its probably going to be really flimsy. It's already super thin. You can see light coming thru it in some spots.

I really don't care that much about having a show-quality looking car. It's just one of the sacrifices we make to haul more ***.

I was fitting my hood last night with the adjustable rails from racecraft. It looks like there is plenty of material on the rail to where you could trim it off between the dzus fittings and keep most all of the lip on the VFN hood. That's the route I'm taking.

I'm working out of town, but when I get back next week I'll put some up. I just homemade some brackets using home depot aluminum strips. When the hood's off it doesn't look as good as rails but it works.

I mounted my racecraft dzus rails yesterday for my VFN extended on '98 Z28. I trimmed 1/8" off the rails before I mounted them. The hood sat down perfectly on the car without trimming away any of the lip.

Also, I had to adjust the rails to the high side for my application. Racecraft should consider making the -1/8" standard for the rails on our cars... or atleast offer it for guys going with the VFN hood. It's makes installing the hood a breeze after you trim them.
