Default WHat gear do I need for the spray?

This a 383 LT1, stock ecm(7100 rpm limit) 325/50 drag radial, 4L60E trans with a tight(er) converter.

Ran a best on motor of 11.02, has a 4.11 in it now. Goes through the traps at 6300-6500 dpending on DA.

I have it jetted for a 175 hit right now. And boy on the street it sucks up gear QUICKLY with the 4.11 in it.

DO I drop back to a 3.50 gear in anticipation of one day using the 250 jets? Or go 3.70 gear?

I am also thinking about a turbo 350/400 trans with a brake. With a 3.50 gear and a 28 tall tire street driving would not be that bad.

Go with a 3.70 gear and stay with your 28" tall tire for the spray if you plan top out at 145-146mph in the quarter @6500rpms (this assumes ~10% slippage). A 3.50 with a 28" tall tire will get you 155mph @6500rpms (~10% slippage).
You will destroy that A4 so I would upgrade to a th400 with a t-brake and ~5400 stall on the bottle (4600-4700 on motor) very soon (esp with your raceweight).

If you go with a 3.70 gear you will most likely slow to 120-121mph in the quarter and lose about 3 tenths NA. With a 175 hit and you are looking at 137-138mph assuming you have a matched nitrous converter. 250 should put you at about 144-145mph so I would opt for the 3.70 gear with a 28" tire to not lose so much NA.

I run a 3.70 gear with the same tire and it is pretty streetable (a lot more than a 4.11 and a 26" tall tire..lol).

Yeh that 60E is having a HARD time dealing with the weight of my car. The spray is gonna kill it.

I talked to a buddy about a turbo 400, its in the works now.

WHere is a good place to get 9 inch gears?

I like the moser gears myself but I am sure some Richmonds from Summit would work fine.
If you don't mind, what are specs on your cam (ballpark if you want to keep it hush hush) and what compression are you running?

I would use a 3.70

I always used moser pro gears. Strange has good ones too.

would steer away from a regular street gear.

Thanks for the info! BTW, my moser gears are the street gears and have held up to multiple 1.4 60 ft with no problem. I also drive my car on the street quite a bit.

That cam is similar to the one I got. .640 lift 258 268 106lsa but my compression will be 11.7~11.8-1. I am running ported AFR 220's and Accel single plane by EB porting with T&D shaftmounts.
Is your combo pump gas friendly?

For the 250 jets and your rpm limit I would do 3.70's. I have just run the regular street gears for years and have never broke one.

Yeh I see no need for a pro gear, I have no trans brake. And I was always told DO NOT run a pro gear on the street, cant handle the heat.

WHen I had a 383 LT1, mild cam (hot cam), full bolt ons, 3700 race weight, 2500 stall and moser 12 bolt. I put 3.42's becuase I didnt want to run a 28" tall slick.

THe concept revolved around, what I run at the track, I run on the street.

Was planning on a 150 shot and a 6,500ish rev limiter.

I want to be at 7000 on the spray if I decide to run a 250 shot 1/4 mile. Migh grow large enough nads to do it one day.

Now with the 4.11 it goes through at 6300-6500 on the motor, It sucks up gear so quick on the 175 shot It would probably top out in the 1/8 with the 4.11 on the 325 drag radials.

PM Jay, tell him I sent you. He has a massive amount of exp running a larger cube n2o car, and has it down solid. He went from 4.11's down to 3.73;s and on only 150 shot, he is in the 9's and at this point is playing with converters to get the right hit.

My car was not going to see that RPM, nor run that big of tire, so that 3.42's would have fit the bill. The converter will have so much slip but the tires should grow at least an inch or a inch and 1/2. The gear calc. is a ball park at best
