Weight reduction questions
42..Hood (LT1) (stock Weight)
??..Good Fiberglass Hood WS.6 style (US Exotic WS.9 hood Pref.)
??..Stock 98+ T/A hood
??..Stock 17" Rim w/ 275mm tire
If someone can fill in the blanks or post a link to where I can find the info, I would appreciate.
Here is a little back story.
My car weighs ALOT....
3950lbs w/ me in it, 1/4 tank of fuel, full fluids, and no real weight reduction.
I am not light at a svelt 350 pounds but im 6'5" so I know I can shed an easy 70 which is what I am working on next.
The car itself is 3600 w/o driver. Fully Optioned except 12 disk changer. NON WS.6.
I have modded the car as well, see sig, it does have Dynatech Cats and a fully optioned, non lightend Moser 12 bolt.
I have a up coming drag day, and I aim to lighten the car as much as possible BUT there is some criteria. I used to live by the rule, that I what I raced at the track, I raced on the street. BUt with this car I have abandoned that idea. Because I street race RARELY and the track is safer.
Criteria
1) Reversable- Nothing permenant
2) 95% a street car, so A/C stays in, door bars, and bumper supports/air bags
3) Nothing thats going to take 5 hours to put back together
4) Keep the car looking good.
Plan
5..Floor Mats
5..Coolant Overflow fluid
8..Washer Fluid
12..Sway Bar
4..Hatch Cover
6..Heat Shielding (keeping gas tank shield)
37..Spare Tire/Jack
15-20..Sound Deading on back of Carpet
33..Rear Seat
45..Pass. Side Seat (leather)
45-50..Front Wheels (17" Stock WS.6 to 15 x 4 Convo Pro)
30..Rear Wheel (17" Stock WS.6 to 15 X 8 Convo Pro M/T ET street 26")
15..Hood Swap (Stock T/A LS1 to WS.9 Fiberglass)
I have the rims and hood, the rest I just need to do the work.
If all the #'s work out, minus what I do with my body I am looking at 250-275 pounds. Although I am not too keen on taking the Side seat out, but its heavy enough, It can made a difference. The way I figure it, if I was 120 pounds soaking wet, then in theroy it can be justified, also nothing perm. removed!

I would def yank the a/c before taking out the sway bar. Some more ideas for you are light weight battery, !cats, remove the padding from the stock carpet, and look into getting a tubular k-member. I love my UMI.

The Criteria was there to say, that what ever I do its to shave weight for racing but not to degrade street use.
The Tires/Rims are track only, so they get swapped at the track and put back to the 17"s before I leave.
I have a U/D Pulley and I have never been keen on light weight batteries, the !cat do not gain hp and they make Corsa sound alot better. As for weight on them they about 10 pounds total. They are specifically Dynatech's High flow cats.
I'm removing the padding, thats today. and a K member I'll do when I get the $$$. I am also sure if I went with a 3.5" aluminum I bet it would save weight of my Denny's. BUt being a heavy slick car I like it there.
a 17 with the tire as long as it is not a runflat should be 40+lbs . runflat tires weigh in at about 40lbs by themselves .
hope this helps your first post .

I got most of the work I wanted done yesterday. with the insulation out, it a little louder and you def get some heat on your legs from the trans tunnel and when the car shuts off I hear one of the last 2 heat sheilds rattle but all in all its what I expect.
After my next drag day the rear seats go back in, no one sits back there so the seat belts will stay out.
I am not a fan of not having a front sway bar but its not the end of the world neither.

I got this much out, the fluids are next and god damn the power leather seat on the driverside has to be around 55 pounds, the passager I say about 45.

I know hood shocks are about 1 pound, and the hinges and brackets on the hood got to be 2-3.
So thats 46 and if I recall the Ws.9 is around 20-25 so I am going to do good!!
I found the hardware needed to put my hood on, I just need a 2nd pair of hands and some time.
The stock one is heavier, felt like 45ish pounds
This one feels around 25 or so.
I got my slicks ready, and a last few things to take out before race day!!!
