Default Wolfe low slung door bars

I know this has been talked about a few times, but it seems to go back and forth....if everyone was 100% then I wouldn't even post this...but seeing some people disagree confuses me.

So... here it goes.

For those of you with the Wolfe 6pt rollbar with low slung door bars, have track officials said anything negative about it? said it was not legal? give you any trouble?

I don't want to buy this and it not be right.

As long as the bar passes by your elbow with your left hand on the wheel, it is legal. I think this is what the rule states, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a wolf 6pt with the low slug bars and I have not had an inspector REALLY check it out. But there has not been any cause for them to really look it over either.

I had this problem on my mustang. I just had a guy put a 10pt cm cage in it and he made the door bars swing really low to make it easier to get in and out of. I get it back to my shop and call a local inspector over to check it out. He said he would not pass it in tech. So I took the car back to the guy and had him change the driver side bar so it would pass inspection. I have not had in reinspected yet, but I did everything he told me to do..

That's what I've heard..but I've never sat in a car with a Wolfe rollbar before...so I don't know where it would be at.

whether it passes or not depends on where you sit at. if you are short and sit closer to the steering wheel it will have less chance of passing.

Thats the rule I read and like said in a different post, its going to depend how you sit in the car.

I don't have a rule book, but is it just witht he hand on the steering wheel or is it in driving position? I have my steering wheel a little more forward then most and although the seat is in roughly the same position I have my arms almost fully extended and if I recall my elbows are up near the switch panel, I would think the door bar that high would cause issues getting in and out. So how does that work? or is it basically sit in the seat and touch the steering wheel anywhere and see where the elbow hits?

The door bar must pass about mid-point between the shoulder and elbow, when the arm is on the steering wheel in driving position. So it really depends on where and how you sit while racing.

No ifs, ands, or buts. Now wether a track official will check or not is a different issue, but that is the rule according to NHRA 2008.

My Wolfe six point roll bar has passed spec inspection every time at the track. However, I was never asked to set in the car during the spec inspection.I think it would be close if asked to do so,hopefully, they will never ask.

a while back a friend of mine with that bar in the car was told by Englishtown Raceway Park that it will not pass tech and was not allowed to run faster then 11.99 [this was back when 11.99 was the ET requireing a bar]

Did the the tech inspector state specifically why he would not pass tech. What does the 2008 NHRA rule book say - can someone quote the roll bar rule?

when sitting in the car the door bar must pass between the shoulder and the elbow.
the wolfe is not legal unless you sit very low in the car and the bar passes between those points. Wolfe makes a great fitting bar, I actually used to have that bar in the car years ago and have passed tough etown tech with it many times. That bar has been out for quite a few years now and track officials may have become more familiar with it and they know it's not legal.
I would call Wolfe and tell them your concerns and see if they have a product that is legal or can modify yours as a special order to be NHRA legal.

My elbows are above the bar sitting in the driving position. I've not had anyone look at it that closely.

Oh ok..from that picture it actually looks like its just touching his elbow....

The low slung bar seems to be more for easy entry...so how much more difficult is it to get in the car with a straight bar?

I tried searching but couldn't find any pics of cars with the Wolfe rollbar and straight doorbar...

You can also do a swing-out. It's legal and I did it on my Nova, much easier to get and out of.

Mine are swing outs and I keep them off unless I'm racing or showing it.

On the rules, I think they want your elbow to be inside the cage. So I think it can pass at your elbow to be legal.
