.

Several good places for button. Shifter, console, wheel, dash.
Just depends on big you are & which finger you are more comfortable using.

I used the button on the top of the hurst quaterstick for the transbrake.

I have heard that your reaction time will be faster if you use your finger instead of your thumb, I haven't tested that theory yet though.

I am using a cheap Drop stick off e-bay. The original like "Pain" used is almost $200

HERE is the one I have.

I stage and when the light goes down I just drop or toss it and grab the steering wheel and then go to shifter and get ready for second

I usually drive with my left hand on the wheel and my right on the shifter, only time the right hand touches the wheel is if I feel something bad might happen LOL.

only bad thing about the button on the shifter is if you are holding the shifter with your thumb on the button, there is a good chance if the car leaves hard that you will pull it into 2nd gear. that is of course if you have a reverse shift pattern. so there is another good reason to use your finger instead of thumb.

Ellis,

What are the chances of dropping it and hitting the button again, wouldn't that relock the trans?

I used to have that problem, but now I push foreward on the shifter when I leave, and keep my fingers out strait as well. This way the shifter is in my palm and my thumb is on top of it, let go of the button, then wrap my fingers the rest of the way around the shifter.

I did pull 2nd the first couple runs I made when the car first went together, but since the racing seats went in that are solid mounted to the cage and the floor I haven't done it, I think some of it was me being pushed into the seat at launch which is why I pulled the shifter.

Do they make a brake for a FMVB? I thought it was only for RMVB.

i've done it once in a friend's car...but it was on a coiled up cord and the coil got wrapped around one of my fingers, and when i slung it off it tagged the button. but just dropping it won't do it...the button took a bit of effort to push though.

we've since mounted it on the side of a t-hande shifter. the button is on the "b" side of this handle...
