Default 26" vs. 28"

I'll be getting a set of Billet Specialties Streetlites soon and I'm trying to figure out which tire I should go with. I'll either be getting the MT 275/50/15 (26") or the MT 275/60/15 (28"). My car is a m6 and my mods are in my sig. I also do not plan on spraying the car for a while. I'm thinking the 26" tire would be better for my current N/A setup. Any info. would really help.

Thanks

You might have better traction on a 275/60 tire off the line especially with an M6, a 275/50 might not be enough tire to hook on a hard launch.

Yea youd be better off with the 28 and a lower gear. But I voted 26. You'll have to have that suspension dialed if you want to hook.

I'd go with the 28" radial. More sidewall = more traction. Plus you will be good to go when you finally do spray it.

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone know if a 275/60/15 will fit on a car with the rear isolators removed?

Doesn't he want 4:56 gears if he goes with the 28'?

I was thinking a 28" tire would be a little to much tire for 3.89s? I did the calculations on fbodygears.org and with the 28" I'd be going through the traps at around 5400 and with the 26" I'd be going through at 5800. I know it would be good for spray but I'm not planning on spraying at the car for a while.

DTB, you and I are very close with accessories. I tried 26", but the 28" worked much better. I started with 3.73's and ended up with 4.10's. Your 3.89's will work great. I have 15"X10" Drag Lites with a 6.5" BS. It fits beautiful. If my daughter gets back with her digital camera, I'll download a picture before you spend your $.

Go with 28x11.5x15 MT ET streets. I had the 275/50 street radials and couldnt get them to bit. With the et streets I just would launch off the limiter (6600) to shock the tires with 11psi. Hooked dead every pass. 1.62 best 60 with a cam, and mild head work.

So there is no modding required for a 28'' tire ?

As long as you use a MT 275/60/15(28"x 10" wide) they will fit the wheel well. The 325/50 (28"x12" wide) requires the BFH mod and/or trimming the inner fender at the bottom front.

325's are way over the top anyways man. Yes they look badass, but there are cars running single digits on 275 50's. Those guys are also running autos. I dont think there is any other option than a 28 with a M6. Just my $.02.

Ok cool, thanx. Ima prob end going with 275/60/15 when go 15s in the rear. Im not going to cut or hammer anything lol BUT the 325s look sick!

Default 28" tire vs 26" tire

I have the chance to buy a set of near new 28x11.5x16 hoosiers on some salad shooters...

I wanted to know if these will fit under my wheel wells with my KYB's and pro kit springs... And what would be the advantages over the 26"

Default 28" vs 26" for 60' traction, how much better are they?

My average leave is a 1.6x 60' on a 25.4" tall hoosier drag radial (low 1.5x on a well prepped track, but that's rare). I just picked up some 28x12.50x15 ET Streets and am wondering how much better they will hook? How much reduction in can I expect in my 60'. They are non "S" tires unfortunately, but they were cheap. I can make enough power on launch to blow them off, so i'm not worried about effective gearing, i'm thinking they will help me out some since I'll be able to cross the 1/4 in 2nd gear instead of shifting to 3rd where I have massive converter slip for 2 seconds (20% vs 4% if I hold 2nd gear).

Taller sidewall should provide better traction.
Might need to trim the lower part of the rear quarter panel.
