Default Disappointing dyno, unrealistic goals?

Car put down 324.8 hp/336 tq, hp started falling off rapidly at 5600ish

98 ls1
ls1 intake (yeah...I know)
2000 heads
comp xe 230/224 111+3 cam
ported throttle body
stock maf
cone filter after 90 degree rubber intake tube
doug's headers
2 1/4" exhaust with dual cutouts 1.5-2 ft behind collectors
pac springs
7.4 pushrods
ported oil pump

tranny is stock with a transgo kit (not the shift kit, just a corrector kit)

12 bolt posi 3.42 gears
steel driveshaft

tuning by wait4me

the only other thing I can think of is that the transmission was in 3rd instead of drive, but that's what I was told to do

I guess maybe my hopes were just too high but I was hoping to see at least 350hp on a dynojet. Maybe I'm just getting hit with enough pissy little things to add up to big loss. My biggest concern is the way power drops so quick at 5600rpm. Even the other guys there with stock ls1 intakes didn't seem to have that problem.

Open to ideas though, and a ls6 intake is on top of my list. Guess I might be losing more in the tune than I expected...but hell for $60 I can't complain.

In the second pull (red lines) they drop off hard because the tailshaft housing busted and there was a lot of smoke

to me, that seems about right, 4l60e eats horsepower, that coupled with a beefier rear, mail order tune, AND an ls1 intake, i think you are right in line.

i got bit by the big goal bug too. i dynoed REALLY low for what i thought it would be before H/C, and not exactly in line after the tune and install, but i always forget how much the A4's really take. the numbers will fool you though...

hmm, what's up with the 90 degree rubber intake tube? i would think a stock bottom intake with a good lid would be much better than that. also, the 12 bolt is robbing a little power. and of course an ls6 intake manifold would help alot with the RPM and power issue. maybe a better tune too. i'd say you should be running alot stronger with a few things changed to your setup.

I wouldn't expect good results through the 4L60E with your restrictive exhaust and intake.

i have the tr230/224 cam with all the bolt ons you have except 3 inch exhaust and ls6 intake and i only put down 358hp on a mustang dyno. numbers are not everything. get a better tune, intake and exhaust and you will be fine. the only thing i question is why three degrees of advance in the cam. the tr cam is 230/224 on a 111 lsa stait up. i was told by tr that that is the best way to run this cam. that might be why you are falling of at such a low rpm. i made consistant power to 6500 rpm and held it.

get 3 inch pipe on the exhaust and an ls6 intake. The better the engine can breathe the more horse power you will make.

Default Intake test

Here is a link on some intake testing to help you make a decision on an intake if you were thinking of upgrading.

exhaust can't really be hurting me much, uncapped its basically open headers

the advance in the cam is the same 3 degrees thunder racing grinds into theirs, its installed straight up, just ground in advance

keep the ideas coming though guys, appreciated!

has it been tuned?? my car with a 224/230 99 heads and headers on a flowmaster CB...stock stall,ls1 intake manifold, and all that and i made 363... then i did a cutout and ls6 intake with a tci 3500 stall which probably hurt my #'s and i made 380whp on a dynojet... so i think theres just something with the tune

the tune was just a mail order tune, could be something funky there...doubt it makes any difference at wot but my driver side o2 sensor isn't working for some reason I know

a true dyno/street tune might wake it right up, that's kinda why I was asking...I expected to be down on some power from the tune but this was a little lower than I expected
