Default Tuner to Dyno car in 2nd gear

I was told to not expect really high numbers on dyno run because he was goona dyno my car in second gear. He said he was goona do this because my 1999 Z28 has a stainless steel driveshaft, and he has seen the tranny output shaft break because of the vibration from stainless steel driveshaft over 100 mph in third gear. I have never heard this before. Will this effect the quality of my tune?

With my manual trans, the higher the gear, the richer it gets. I am SD tuned, so that may have a bit to do with it, but I still believe it will affect your tune.

With 3.73 gears it can easilly be tuned in 3rd.A 2nd gear tune will be off a bit and the #'s will definitely be lower.

If the car had a stock 2.73 gear set then you could be worried.

i agree. with 3.73's you should be fine in third. i was at a dyno with a buddies car that cracked the tailshaft dynoing in third with 2.73's

UPDATE..... He dyno'd my car in second gear to be cautious. Regardless, The bushing got pulled out and was stuck on yoke from what i understand. Still put down 320 rwhp in second gear! I will be buying a good aluminum driveshaft soon!

9 out of 10 times you won't have a problem, but the one that is a problem, where the tail shaft housing of the trans breaks is a head ache for both the customer and the dyno operator. I've seen enough of the 2.73 gear steel driveshaft cars break on the dyno to take precautions when I get one on the dyno.

Ive had alot of 2.73 geared cars chunk the driveshaft. I will only do 2nd gear dynos on 2.73 cars.

The LS1 based trucks are really bad about driveshafts as well.
