Default EPS 230/242 cam in stock head lq9

I had another post on this from a month and a half ago..... wasnt' happy with the tune after doing some data logging and seeing the knock retard... New tune only picked up 3 rwhp peak (I didn't expect to pick any up when it was actually running the correct timing and not loosing it due to low oct table or KR slowly building back the timing). Driving around the car does drive better. I am still working on the rolling idle issues. I will address them with HP tuners.

Car was down for about a year after my 383 grenaded...... thats another story....

Car went from m6 to A4 and is now the following:

Motor:
06 LQ9 6.0L out of escalade with 44k on it.
Ported LS6 intake w/ svo 30#
Stock ported TB
Stock 317 heads (never taken off the motor)
EPS Cam 230/242 .600/.605 113 *Geoff took the time to spec this out for me based off of my mods and what I was looking to do---no PTV issues*
FTP lid
85mm MAF

Exhaust:
FLP long tubes
2.5" Y, no cats, flowmaster merge
4" Mufflex with flowmaster muffler

Trans:
FLT level 4
Yank sss3600

Rear:
strange 12 bolt with 3.73

This thing was a BUDGET build too many toys and bills to go ***** out now.... My goal was to get it up and running and have a car that would run mid 11's NA on a tire and be a fun toy.

The numbers were 415 RWHP @ 6250 and 396.5 RWTQ @4800 with the converter LOCKED on a dynojet. Nice broad power curve. I have it shifting at 6650 out of first and 6600 on the 2-3. It pulls nice and strong. Not sure if raising the shift points at all will help much.... will have to test at the track.

These are realistically what I expected for a stock headed motor with a cam and bolt ons. Would have liked to use my Cartek stage II heads, but since they needed to be decked again.... they were down at 57cc and would NOT work on a stock botom end 6.0L... TOO much compression! I am sure a FAST and maybe a different exhaust would pick up a few ponies, but not worth me spending the coin right now. I eventually plan to hit it with a 100-150 shot and that should hopefully get me a 10.90....

Now I just need to get to the strip and see what it runs!

EPS spec'd me a cam a few weeks ago. It's cool to see how different engines and different combo's require way different specs.

Mine is a NA motor. I think the big split was due to the STOCK untouched 317 heads not flowing as much on the exhaust side??? And he had to take into consideration the PTV issues due to stock un-knotched pistons.

415hp is nothing to sneeze at through an A4 drivetrain, stock heads and an LS6 intake. Very nice.

Large splits only being used for nitrous motors is a very large misconception. In a lot of N/A cases, large splits like this will work better for the entire combination. But of course, the large split is always nice if you did want to use nitrous.

Thanks. For the budget build it is, it will work for now. I was told that this cam would really like a 100 shot Now I just need to get to the strip.

No, it's just that Geoff is speccing cams correctly for cathedral heads. He's using (what I and many others consider) the least important valve event to ensure a complete cylinder evacuation for cleaner combustion at upper rpms. The early EVO low rpm torque loss is offset by another of the valve event changes. It's also why his cams carry so much better. That and his lobe design. Some people have been doing this for years but they just don't sponsor here. Hell I was told by a sponsor here when I divulged my cam specs that I would suffer exhaust reversion throughout the entire rpm range and to shorten my exhaust duration. Yet it's near identical to the great stuff EPS is releasing. Thus I've concluded that a lot of sponsors don't know a damn thing about what they're selling. And the trusting general public is suffering by paying for under performing parts.

What did it run at the track? Yea I know how old this thread is lol but I'm tired of ppl doing This kind of stuff and not sharing results I've got a moldy LQ9 sitting here that I just picked up to replace my LS1 that died recently of a water logging and it looks so cute with the mold on the heads I really don't want to pull them heads off before I put it in the car even though I have 241 243 or even 706 everything here if I can get it to do what it needs to with the stock heads on it let's go baby!!
