Default Locked vs Unlocked torque converter, how much power difference?

Hey all, Just got back from the dyno, but my tuner found that my car wasn't shifting into overdrive and that the lockup isnt working. Were still trying to find the cause of that.

Anyways, my car made 389.89rwhp and 342rwtq unlocked. Whats a general percentage of power gained when locked up vs unlocked? I have to take the car back for more tuning and tweaking once I figure out my bugs with the transmission.

roughly .095%

nearly 10%

so if you take that 390 *.095 = 37.05 + 390hp = 427 estmated locked converter judging by jokers numbers

I think it will depend on the torque converter. The looser the converter the more loss. I would imagine the STR will also play a role in the scheme of things. Some torque converters such as the Yank PT4000 will not dyno all that well but take it to the track and look out.

I know the subject has been covered countless times, but thanks for all the input guys! So according to ricer math, Im looking at approx 430rwhp. Sounds on par with my setup, I have a conservative tune also!

My pt 4000 was only a 18 hp difference locked vs unlocked so its actually a very efficient converter. Whcih also makes it a hwy killer in a auto.

not to bring this up again but my 396 lt1 just made 410/350 unlocked but no software to lock it, i was kinda disapointed at first but i guess through a vig converter and 4.10 gears those arent bad numbers, also a bit lean at 13.3
