Default i have never been more disappointed with a car in my life

i picked my car up from the dyno today and found out it only put 413.9whp, and 400wtq. they had a whole bunch of reasons or excuses, and I'm not blaming them, they did their job. they said that my DR's were getting hot and slipping, and he showed me the huge pile of rubber that came off the tires. it seems like an excuse for my poorly performing car. (sigh) my car sucks.
it started off good, it was making over 325wtq at 2k rpms, but then only rose to 400wtq at 3800. 413.9whp at 6100rpm's

Track times?

I am sure you know this but dyno numbers don't mean ****. Don't stress too much.

for a head/cam/intake 408 it is pretty damn low, most people here would expect that or more with a h/c/i 346

have a graph? details on the engine and drivetrain

Is it possible that if you would have been present during the dyno tuning things might have gone better, or you would know for sure that there was nothing they could have done otherwise. Considered another dyno run / pulls with another dyno shop / operator?

Hey man, that's still light years ahead of my cam only combo. I had a cammed 6.0 built and it didn't even put down 290rwhp TUNED! lol

Definitely get track times and see what it really does.

If its an automatic, make sure the converter is a good match for the setup. Mine was making similar #s as yours, then with a new stall I magically gained over 100rwhp.

its a built forged motor, all the bells and whistles, double roller timing set, ported and shimmed ls6 oil pump, -3 cc pistons, compression around 11.4-1, TSP ported l92 heads, l76 intake, which is 90mm, 92mm TB. the cam is a T2, which is something like 232/236 with around .600 lift. the transmission is built level 2 by tick, the rear is a 12bolt with c-clip eliminators, 35 spline axles, full spool. 315 BFG DR's. i should have put down damn near 500whp. i wasnt there for the runs, i had to drop it off and get back to work. i know the cam is on the tiny side for a 408. im looking at swapping in a TSP giant cam, its like a 248/250 i think that will perform better. like i said before the guy who tuned it said the tires were heating up and slippin on the dyno, he says he hates to run a car with DR's on his particular dyno, they always give low numbers. i was also thinking about seeing if VA speed could work some magic on it. i have heard alot of good things coming from them with the l92 setups.

A H/C/I 408 should be in the 500rwhp range bar minimum, even through a 12 bolt.

One problem I already see is the cam choice. L92 heads like a LOT of split favoring the exhaust, and a short intake duration. I'd use something like a 230/242 or 230/246 in that motor. A 4-6 degree split isn't going to compliment a cylinder head very well that flows as much INTAKE cfm as the L92 heads do.

Take your car to a shop that knows what they're doing. That's a **** poor cam choice for that motor. VA speed should fit the bit.

Agree with above that the cam choice is way wrong! And those numbers are way off for a 408 with those parts in it... Get a better cam and get someone else to tune it again...

Is this a 4l60e car? Was the converter locked? I agree the power is a bit on the low side, but keep in mind autos are not dyno queens. It does need a different cam spec as well. Depending on drivetrain I have seen some cars make atrocious numbers on the dyno and then knock down some awesome times at the track. Like these guys are saying, take it to a track and see what happens. Dyno numbers are not everything.

I would recommend taking it to the pros at VA Speed and getting them to help you out.

Agreed; Dynos are great for tuning and bragging rights when you have a stick. The track is what counts for a drag car anyway. A Friend of mine made similar #'s and has run 11 Flat at 3800 lbs race weight. I don't think the tires are slipping if at all. This is my Camaro with tire slippage on the dyno; notice the dip at 90 and it finally catches up at the end.

take it to another dyno. we had a dyno day years ago on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. everyone had numbers at least 10-15% lower than Dynojet numbers.
