Default What kind of results for GEN III/IV 5.3s?

Just wondering what kind of numbers and track times these are putting down, anyone have any info?

I am installing a GEN IV 5.3, 2008 model in my 86 TA, it will be a single turbo but for now it is going carbed, patriot cam(225/229, 582/589 lift on 114 LSA), yaned the 243 heads off for my 89 RS with the 6.0, and i am dropping off some 317s at the machine shop tomorrow, not even going to port them, and i am wondering how it will do, i figure it will give the 302 fox body guys less reason to bitch about cubes and make it more competitive for them and some others before the turbo goes on. Really, i am looking to exploit what the little 5.3 can do in a car that is set up for street strip for those miler guys that just want something that sounds and runs good with not spending 800-1000 or more for a 6.0.

I assume 350 RWHP is possible, but what will be holding me back is the shorty headers, i am using the cheap Ebay pieces for 80$, i am chopping off the gay *** small flange and installing 3 inch pieces, then it will be 3 inch to a Y into 3 inch and dumped at the axle in my 86 TA. So, i am doing what i can to let it breath without spending any real money, couldnt justify another 800$ set of Hawks stainless works headers for a car that wont be using them for long.

Any input would be great, truck guys, i know your times wont be where i can get a good dig on what i will do in a 86 F car, but the data can still be used for my interest.

Dyno numbers will be great no matter what the combo.

Intake is Victor Jr, 750 CFM HP carb, TH400 with a 3000 stall, reverse patter(not like it matters), and the rear will be 3.23 for a bit till i get a better setup, had to splurge on suspension first.

Just hoping it can go mid 7s or so on motor, might hit it with the 150 shot?

Willing ot bet on motor it will still eat 10 bolts, LOL.

After plenty of digging, it seems 350 RWHP is possible like suspected, some are higher, some lower, but since i am carbed, it will be a bit better on the big end, just hurting in a low end and mid range will be a bit lower than the EFI. Wish i had some full length headers to top it off.

Might port the 317s a bit, but i think i will just drop them off tomorrow so i can get this project going NA before the turbo, i need to remember i am not shooting for the fastest possible on motor, although i will surely see what a junkyard 5.3 can do.

All else equal it should be a tad under what similar 5.7s make I would think.

Its really going to be a turd with 317s and a victor jr with that cam. 317s on a 5.3 put it around 8.5-8.8 compression. I'd put the 243s on to bump the compression.

Being a GEN IV, it has flat tops, so compression should be a touch above 9.5, it will still work great.

The 243s came off of it for my LQ4 in my 89 RS, see if i can trap 100 all motor in the 1/8th at 6.9 or so.

Would be happy with mid 7s in the 1/8th, but it wouldnt hurt my feelings if it didnt go that fast.
