Default H/C Dyno Results and Intake Question.

Shortblock out of a 2000 Vette (I think)
Texas Speed 2.5 5.3L Heads
228/232 cam
Lid, Kooks 1 7/8, ORY, Magnaflow cat-back.
LS6 Intake, stock injectors.

Longblock was installed and tuned by Slowhawk.

414/383 rwhp/rwtq. Nice flat torque curve that doesnt fall off.

Posting this to get opinions on what everyone thinks could be gained by going with a larger lid/throttle body, fast intake and bigger injectors. I need a new rear before I go adding more power, but still curious what everyone thinks.

Thanks in advance.

Congrats, solid power numbers. Awesome flat curve, very streetable and fun I'm sure.
You could get a fast, probably pick up decent power. IMHO, I would just enjoy it for a while before you do anything else... You'd have to retune it once you put on a fast and new throttle body (if you think apprx $1400 + tune cost is worth about 20ish hp....)

FAST+TB alone would be 10-20rwhp.

Get a 9" with 4.11's before you think about adding more power.

9" is definitely first.

is the 10-20 hp only at high rpm or would i see low-end/mid-range gains as well?

The setup is very consistant. Just did the same package on another car and the curve looks exactly the same with the same peak #'s. We opened the cutout and went to 426hp/392tq .I like it because it's a true daily driver.Cruise in 1st gear at 1100rpm with no surging ect.

LOL, down south -yes. Up here we have to deal with Baaaston traffic which is an hour of 10mph driving....

Nice results, hoping to make some similar numbers in near future. And your definetly going to want to look at a new rear, mines on a fine line with just a cam haha.

How much more power do you think the 1 7/8 headers over 1 3/4 helped?

Looks like the fast setup would not be very beneficial to me. As a street car, im more interested in power down low than spending the $1500 for a relatively little gain up top.

Im going to have to refer to Don on the cam specs, he spec'd it himself.

I have to say, I wish this car came from the factory this way. Perfect balance of low end torque and high end hp!

Getting slightly off topic- When I had the motor installed something broke loose in my muffler making a pretty loud clinking (sounded horrible). I finally got the old magnaflow off and replaced it with the hooker aero chamber. This thing sounds great, I like it alot more than the magnaflow. Deeper tone with less rasp.

Im hoping to have enough for the 9" by June, ill make sure to post back up with some track results as soon as I can.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Thought I would bump this back up.

Recent trip from CT to NC, the car got 29 mpg.

~90rwhp gain, no low end losses and the gas mileage didnt suffer= I love this combo!

Side note- car was pinging a bit on the highway when I tried to accelerate from say 75-80 (6th gear, maybe 1/8th throttle). Kept happening with gas from 3 different stations (all down south- Sheets, Mobile, Sunoco), so I thought it was something other than a bad tank of gas. I gave Slowhawk a call and it seems that the Chris1313 ram air I installed (post tune) provided alot of extra air- I was told that when the MAF sees more air it adds timing. Makes sense as the ram air should be working at 75 and the car is only pulling ~1800rpm, so its putting a pretty good load on the motor while also adding timing, causing the detonation.

Oddly enough though, I filled up again in CT and it went away. I wonder if the gas down south is not as good? maybe a combination of the two?...

Either way, car did great and I couldnt be happier with it.

did you do the chris1313 ram air with AC or without AC ? How do you like it ?

^^^^

without AC.

Seat of the pants it does feel like it made a difference at highway speeds- it surprised me how much of a difference it made (subjectively of course).

The install was easy, but the fit is very tight, little to no clearance between it and the radiator (im going to keep an eye on it to make sure there are no rubbing issues).

I have the predator tuner that I now only use for live diagnostics and from what I can tell there was no issues with the ram air blocking the radiator- highest ECT ive seen has been 195 and it definetly helps deliver a nice cool charge- intake air temps have been at ambient.

As I said though, from what I was told, when cruising at highway speeds the MAF sensor sees the extra air and adds timing, combined with the load on the motor in 6th the car was getting some detonation- knock retard was pulling about 6-10 deg out according to the predator. again, im not sure if it was the gas or a combination- just something to think about.
