EPS Cam Only LQ9... Video and Pics
Hello Everyone,
It has been a while since I have posted a Dyno of Christine (my previously LS1 powered Caprice), and that is because I lost a job for a while and had to sell her stock (but STRONG running, see Sig below) LS1 to make ends meet for a bit.
Well, a Year has passed and after saving my pennies and nickels, "Aknovaman" on here and I picked out a LS1 replacement (a LQ9) and he installed it and got it running.
Since I am on a budget, we did a stock LQ9 and got a EPS cam package (234/246 @ .050 with .602"/.607" lift on a 111 LSA) from Geoff.
It was tuned locally by "Justune" a reputable KC area tuner. It still needs some fine tuning (its running rich right now) but these dyno runs gave me a starting point.
Power seems down compared to other EPS "Cam Only" cars, but I am sure my 4,500 stall and TH400 are not helping my numbers and I think with some more tuning it will be closer to 400rwhp.
Interestingly enough, the Flowmaster exhaust seemed to be robbing a surprising amount of power on the Dyno. (21rwhp/31rwtq lost through exhaust)
Anyways here are a couple pics and vids.

Thank you for your time.
If all goes well I plan to head to the track in a week or to see the numbers that really count.... 1/4 mile E.T.

Yea, not sure why the graph is so bouncy, and the tuner needs to finish tuning it, lean it up a bit.
There is definitely more work needed before final numbers are found.
Yes sir.

looks like it should run pretty darn good when you get it all ironed out...i'm about 1.5hr away from you to the north and west a little. where are you doing your dyno tuning? I'm a few months away with my LQ9, but it never hurts to find a good shop ahead of time.
by the way, love the two door caprice...i've always wanted to put one together with a 4-speed.

Thank you very much!
Ya, I hope to have it back to the track before it closes for the season, but that will depend on money/time.
I had "Justune" from MC Racing tune my car, but there is also House of Boost which is local to KC as well.
Thank you for the kind words!

Hey I'm new to the board love what you've done to the 78, I got a 86 Landau and was thinking of doing something similar but with a 4L80E TRansmission and less Stall. I currently i have a 88 TPI Setup.

If money were no object I would love to do a O/D trans, but I am on such a shoe string budget, each part I replace/repair takes several months of saving up for me to obtain.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding the rear end now, just ordered a Detriot TrueTrac Locker since the crappy Auburn posi only lasted roughly 3,000 miles.

Did you have a 7.5 Rear ? Have you ever thought of replacing it with a 94-96 Caprice 9C1 rear ?

Preciate the warm welcome, Well within this week I have gutted out my caprice (removed all exterior trim, seats, and interior panels) And I will be pulling the motor this weekend to paint the firewall, inner fenders and radiator support Glossy Black if time allows that is. Let's see who I can sell this TPI to so I can get started on a LQ9 project.

And yeah, its the 7.5" 10 bolt that comes in the civilian Caprice's. I search on Ebay, Craigslist and used all the networks and channels at my Dealership to search for a 8.5" 10 bolt, but each time the auto recyclers would ship me an axle marked as a Caprice 8.5" it would show up and be either a 7.5" or would be for a Cadillac or some other car that had differnt mounts....so I just ended up buying better axles for my 7.5", a overhaul kit with new bearing and seals, and a Detriot Locker "TrueTrac" and I am going to reuse my 3:73's since they are in good shape.
Thank you, I would like to see 11's "Cam Only", with the STOCK heads and what not. She weighs around 3,900 - 4,000 with me in it.
