Default why are these numbers so low for a bolt on ls1?

doesn't 323hp seem pretty low for a ls1 camaro with typical bolt ons. lt's, ls6, lid, UDP, cat-back. Why is that? what would be some factors that would make these number be low. ide figure in the 350 range maybe. if this set-up seems familliar its because it came out of the latest GMHTP mag, so this is just a discussion that could be used for answers for other people who may put down low numbers.

Not that far out of line and if it's an automatic I would say they are almost spot on.

Dynos are for tuning, not bragging.

Couple of things come to mind...

-what type of dyno? (Mustang would read a bit lower)
-what year is the car? (98-00 won't have the LS6 intake)
-Trans? If auto, stock stall or otherwise?
-Tuned or stock tune?

Dyno #s don't mean much. If it goes to the track and traps 110+, who cares about the dyno.

its from a tech article from the recent GMHTP mag. they are doing a cam and head swap from RHS. they're baseline numbers were 323hp, no torque numbers mentioned or year and mileage, 98-02 camaro for sure, but it is a 6 speed and 10 bolt and ide assume that they have the car tuned, but maybe not.

im not discussing the mag, or the article. i am discussing the car and what would be some factors of the baseline numbers being so low.

and the work was done by EFI Alchemy, if that might answer some questions of dynometer.

Dynos are tuning tools. You get a baseline, mod, and then look at the gains. The dynos can be re-calibrated and/or manipulated to read different numbers, so they mean very little in the grand scheme of things. GM High Tech even has an article in the new issue about dyno tricks.

And again, a ls1 car with those mods very often dynos 325-350rwhp depending on full mod list and conditions. Different dynos on the same day in the same town can vary by 50hp+ if they are not calibrated similar.

In my situation.

2002 NON-WS.6 M6 T/A

Baseline:

1) Stock except SLP Lid and Descreened MAF and Free Ram air mod: 324 RWHP

2) All of #1 + Dynatech SuperMaxx LT kit (their CATTED Y), Corsa, 3" Steel D/S and Moser 12 bolt (upgraded Axels and Tru Trac diff, 4.10's vs 3.42's): 325 RWHP

3) #1 and #2 + Textraila OZ700 Z grip and STEEL F/W + Dynotune: 355 RWHP

The car was showing clear KR and once everything got cleaned up, car drove great and very pleased with results. There is some parasitic loss due to the drive line change but call its 5 hp its still 20 just from tuning it.

Sidenote:

Added a Vengence VRx4 Cam (228/230 @ 112 LSA) and a retune from same co. and same dyno 384 RWHP 363 RWTQ. Little low for the cam but again I have seen 400-405 RWHP on cars almost modded exactly like mine on Vengence Dyno so who knows. Like said the Dyno can vary and I am sure the cats could be holding it back. Tru trac and upgraded Moser axels weigh a TON compared to stock as well if you ever have picked one up.

I thought the same thing when I read the article. They wasted that H/C install on a weak car. 323 is soft for a bolt-on M6 car, and 381 hp is even worse for a H/C M6 car. I wondered it they did a leak down test on the motor pre-install.

Until I see a trap speed and a known weight of the car, I won't call it weak.
