Default How important is elevation?

I just got my car back from the tuner, and it made 422/390 on a mustang dyno. I'm running the popular PRC 5.3 stg. 2.5 heads, 234/240 .598 lift, fast 78, and comp ultra gold rockers, with a stock 346 shortblock. I was hoping for it to be in the 440 to 450 range. The AFR is right around 13.5 at WOT. The guy who tuned it says it would be in the 480 range if we were at sea level. Is 3300 ft above sea level going to make that much of a difference?

Elevation makes a huge difference, especially NA. Your numbers sound about right to me. My old combo was almost the same as yours numbers and all except I had an LS6 intake and proted stock TB and stock rockers. In my full weight camaro is would run 11.30's 122 at low elevation and 11.80's 118 at 4500 ft were I live now NA. I couldn't tell you the corrected altitude numbers for any of it though. That combo will respond very well to nitrous too. At 4500 ft my traps where 131-132 on a #62 jet.

Elevation will not affect dyno numbers unless the dyno operator has the weather corrections turned off. OP, if it is really 13.5:1 AFR you are probably missing a few HP from that, that is a bit lean for max power.

Yea, with the wcf turned on, it made 481/443. That sounded high to me, so that's when he told me it was corrected for elevation, etc, and without it, it made the 422/390 numbers.

I would be leery to go WOT on a car with 13.5 AFR...you're just asking for a melted piston.

But that's just me.

Not only are you probably missing power from the fueling, you're also missing power from the limited timing you can run on such a lean mixture. Fix those up and you could hit 430-440 which is more then ok for a 346 with non aftermarket heads on a mustang dyno.

Well, I just got the car back from the tuner for the second time, and it sits right around 12.7-12.8 at WOT now. The car feels good, I can't complain. Now I'll just sit back and enjoy it 'till I have enough cash for my forged/procharged setup! Thanks for the advice guys.
