Just wondering if anyone has done a complete bolt on with heads & intake using the stock cam? Trying to see what power gains would become of it. Was gauging interest in some small bore LS3 type heads with a 102mm TB/Intake set up on a 2002 WS6. I have a race purpose Camaro SS, so before anybody ask that's why I'm not interested in a cam. This car is just a cruiser, but I'd like to get as much power out of it as I can without a cam swap. Anybody???

I did this on a 1999 Dodge Dakota R/T. Not the same, but my experience was positive. I retained the stock cam and upgraded to higher flow heads with bigger valves and found a decent horsepower gain while retaining good manners.

Of course, everyone is going to tell you....why are you doing all of that work and not adding some cam also? Higher flow heads make more power from the same cam.

Give it a try.

Same dyno same day I did mild tunes on a ls1 with typical bolt ons that made 330rwhp stock heads/cam and another with the same bolt ons but 799 (same as 243 "ls6" heads) which were milled a good bit that made 349rwhp.

These were both ls1 intake cars, ls6 intake probably would have helped the 799 headed car make a wider gap in HP.

But for me...I would at least do a little baby cam while I was at it. Car would still have excellent manners but be able to better take advantage of the heads and honestly I hate the "boat" gurgle sound of stock cam cars/trucks. Especially since you will have to tune the car either way...
