Default 228r Cam Only dyno

2002 LS1 M6 150k. At this time the car's only modifications were 228r cam, hardened pushrods, valvsprings, K&N drop in filter, and a cutout.

Nice job! Number is just a number though...how it performs will be most important

Yeah I haven't made it to the track quite just yet. I've raced plenty of people down in Mexico and I've been surprised with how it runs. Albeit it has full exhaust now.

Haven't had it re-dyno'd with the full exhaust. Would It be safe to say that with the full exhaust it should dyno right around 400 RWHP?

I like the consistency on the dyno sheet.. must pull nice. Pretty damn hot day too.. idk if it is just me but mine gets faster when the cold air comes out.. lol.

It's gonna depend on the dyno but on your average dynojet dyno it should be close to 400 but I'm thinking more like 385-390. It's just hard to say...

My car runs like an absolute bandit in cold temperatures. I have yet to swap to a 160 degree thermostat but in the winter it makes noticeably more power.

Does the 160 degree tstat actually make a difference? I've read over and over that these engines like to run hot unless you are boosting them.

They don't overheat or run over operating temperature but I can notice heat soak pretty dramatically if I drive it in traffic all day, while the temp gauge never moves, heat soak rears its ugly head on my car. Here in houston the ambient temps are in the upper 90's and low 100's with the humitiy adding to that making heat indexes in the 100-108 range. The lower thermostat would make it harder to become heat soaked.

My ideal plan is to get a 160 degree thermostat and an oil cooler to keep the oil and coolant temps down. Thats just me though. other people may not notice heat soak.

I'm hoping to see 400. I may do a lid on it too before a retune and dyno. We will have to see.

Just the stock LS6, stock lid, stock tb. All stock except the K&N filter which adds 55 RWHP by itself...

Yes 55 rwhp sounds sounds spot on haha

I'd port the TB and do a SSRA for starters. That should help a tad. A UDP as well if you don't already have one. It all adds up...

A nice cold 100 shot of nitrous = summertime fix for hot air.

Nice. My 228 cam only did 368/362. Then I added heads and a pulley and put down 423/386. So you have the loudmouth and a cutout?

Not bad #'s considering the mods. Put a lid on that bad boy. It may not show much on a dyno but on the street it will make a noticeable difference. Especially at the track.

also, you may want to look into under drive pulleys & ignition wires. pretty inexpensive tid'bit that will aid in those few lost HPs.

No now I have Long tubes, ORY, Loudmouth II. No more cut out. I was curious to see what I gained from it all! Especially since the crap factory manifolds were leaking right before the cat on the driver side! Cut out was also closed for the Dyno run. I was too lazy to crawl under there and uncork it... oh well I guess.
