Talking Texas Speed custom cam in my 402 with AWESOME results

TSP Aluminum LS2 402 with about 50k miles. 11.2-1 CR.

L92 heads slightly hand ported by a Miami shop that went outta business.

Ported Fast 102 intake.

Kooks 1 7/8" headers and Kooks 3" true duals.

T56, stock rear with 4:10 gears, 19" HRE's, and heavy *** 305 drag radials (exactly how it was run on the dyno).

Previous cam was specd for me by another vendor - 244/256 .627-.617 112+4.
It ran like **** in low rpms and not much bottom end but made 509 rwhp and 479 rwtq.

TSP cam is 239/251 and made 517 rwhp but 513 rwtq.

Picked up +8 rwhp and +34 RWTQ just swapping cams and going with TSP's smaller cam.

Thanks guys!!!

Those are great results! I'm assuming you're running a 9" rear? I didn't see it in your post other than having 4.10's. Can't beat having over 500 lbs./ft. at the rear tires with your setup.

We're the before and after numbers on the same dyno as well?

Also forgot to mention the street manners between cams are night and day.

The new cam behaves so much better than the previous.

Very nice! What are the rest of the specs on the new cam?

I'll share them as long as TSP is ok with it.

I freaking love this cam. My favorite. And I've had MANY over the years lol.

Fair enough. Any track times with the old setup?

Very nice. Better HP and TQ, plus better drivability is winning on all fronts.

No problem, if we made it share away. We don't hide specs.

Nice to see positive results OP, under curve power & driveability is impressive. I describe my set up as no drivers meeting required to go for a drive

I've re cam'd my 416 3x, 17.5* of overlap to 10.5 & last spring down to 4*. Each time the under curve power has improved with improved driveability & tuner friendly.

The current camshaft is much friendlier towards the valve train, the previous cam broke two springs & had me in fear of losing the motor. I was also looking for those near perfect street manners, very close now.

Each time I've done this, it has been without expense to top end power, the over rev may have suffered a tad.

Hey....funny you should post this.

I currently have a 244*/256* cam (lift just under .600" w/1.7 rockers) in my 429ci LS3. Got good low end torque but for a near daily driver, it's a bit 'rougher' than I like.

It just so happens that I'm going smaller when I do my next cam swap.....going to the same Comp Cam lobes that you now.....239*/251* with lift in the .649"/.660" range. I calculate losing about 10HP at the wheels but picking up more torque all the way to 6000 RPMs.

Just wanted to know if you mind sharing what LSA and advance you went with your cam.

BTW....nice numbers, too !

KW

cam #1 extremely unfriendly to driver & tuner 243/247 .623/.623 114+2

Cam#2 much more friendly, unfriendly to valve train 235/243 .647/.654 114+5

Cam #3 friendly to driver, tuner & valve train 231/243 .637/.627 116+3

Martin spec'd Cam #3, we never discussed the lobe that I remember. The lifters were changed from LS7 to Morel drop in's with this cam.

Sorry about the late response; Christmas preparations Etc.

239/251 .629 .629 113+3 TSP lobes.

No track times. Just a lot of racing in Mexico.

Another random improvement: picked up ~2 mpg (not that we care about gas mileage lol).

Thanks guys!

I can see this new cam working better for your set up and goals specifically low/mid range power.

But I might chalk the +8rwhp up as dyno variance, weather etc. Even different running temp during pulls can easily skew 10rwhp. Interesting what you learn with time on the dyno with an electric water pump

Intake Valve closing point at .050 is virtually unchanged.
Provided both cams have 51* duration between .006 and .050 Your DCR should have gone up a pinch. I calculate the old cam at 8.17 where the new cam should be 8.21
Lift is roughly the same
Overlap was reduced by 7*
Exhaust valve opens 2.5* later
