Default 408 Expectations

Got my 408 together finally, curious what to expect from it

LQ4 Block
Callies Compstar Crank
Callies Compstar Rods
Wiseco 15cc Dish pistons
PRC 247cc Heads
Cometic 0.040 Gasket (~10.25:1)
Cam Motion 237/251 .627/.627 111.5+2.5
Ported FAST 102/NW 102
FTP 104mm with SSRA
TSP 1 7/8th Longtube Headers
TSP True Duals over axle

Gonna be tuned Speed Density

Car previously made 422whp with a Tick SNS Stage 2, Ported Fast 92/92 setup, SLP Lid and same exhaust setup. Ran 11.9 and trapped 114.3 in 3000ft DA at 3640lbs.

What kind of gains should I expect? Specifically at the track? I don't have a tire on the car (Continental DWS06 295/35/18 same tire it's always had) so my E/T is just gonna be how good I can get it to leave, but my trap speed should improve

Yeah, I would assume, on the same dyno, it should pick up 80hp at least. I mean it's similar compression with, more cam, heads, better intake and a whole liter of displacement. Really hoping it can trap 120+ at the track

Should targeted something closer to 11.5:1 if using 93 IMO.

I will guess 520.

It's gonna receive a Procharger in its future. If it was purely N/A, I would've gone 12:1 with a Ported MSD Atomic and 4-5 degrees more cam timing. I'd be stoked with 520

you still have the 2.73 gears in it? cause that would be next on my list if i was you. and that thing should scream with a good sized procharger.

It does still have its 2.73 10 Bolt. That is next on the list. Probably looking at an 8.8 or something similar with a 3.42-3.55 rear gear.

Nah man, you're good. Im always appreciative of input. I definitely wouldn't get a spool since I street drive my car a lot, even throw it into some corners from time to time. So I was already leaning to a a wave-trac or S-trac. Honestly when the time comes, I'll probably just find what I can locally on Facebook marketplace. There's actually an 8.8 about 4 hours from me for $1800, but I don't have the funds for that right now.

I got the engine in the car, sounds pretty solid. Ended up doing the work myself with the help of a buddy. Here's an idle clip (
)

I unfortunately have a torn shoulder, and I had surgery. So the car is running, just with the stock fuel pump to putt it around town. Once my physical therapist clears me to start moving some weight around again, I'll be able to drop the gas tank and upgrade the pump. Then it'll hit the dyno. So got a little hang up for now, and anyone who knows shoulder recovery knows it sucks, I've still got a month left in this sling

This is a classic case of how much power you make in the car being 90% dependent on the details and the ambient temperature. How good is your exhaust? Do you have cold air? Good gas?

Seems like you could make 600 and change on an engine dyno, though.

Automatic car, Yank SS3600 Single Disc (So hurting dyno numbers there for sure with no WOT lock-up) Still has the 2.73 10 bolt which actually probably helps. The 18x11 Forgestar F14s weigh about 45lbs per rear with the tire, all-season Continental tire.
Here in the Mountains, assuming it'll get on the dyno in the winter time, probably be pretty chilly with the ambient air. Dual 3 inch exhaust with straight through mufflers, no cutouts or anything. 93 Octane. Does have an SSRA along with the FTP Lid so IATs aren't too bad.

Figured I'd update this. It's cold. Lol.

I've decided to take to learning to tune my car myself. It's not 100% dialed in. I've done some hits with a Dragy to get an idea of what the car is making power wise. Last log in the scanner shows it running rich 0.81 Lambda (targeting 0.86 so hopefully some power there) and shows 26.5-27 degrees of timing at WOT. Shifts at 7K on the dot.

It ran 8.44 60-130mph, with a positive 0.95% slope. DA was good though, -1800ft so little unrealistic there. It was 21 degrees out.

I did a 1/4 mile hit too, mind you 21 degrees out and on all-season tires. So the 2.37 60ft is what it is. Ran a 12.57 @ 123mph. Log says I didn't get to 100% throttle until 85 mph. So again skewed.

It had about half a tank of 93 in it, and right now it doesn't have the seats or carpet in it, just a driver seat. Been chasing a water leak. Weigh reduction lists says that's about 110bs. Car previously weigh 3640lbs with a 1/4 tank and me in it at 140lbs. So with the extra 100-110lbs the 408 weighs and the extra 1/4 tank of gas, minus the seats and carpet. It was probably around 3660lbs on those runs. My math says that's in the ballpark of 485whp. Which is honestly right around where I thought it would be. And leaning it out some is bound to pick up some. So I'm fairly happy with that.

If I can get it on a dyno one day I'll report back with some actual numbers. Would really like to do a couple pulls at different timings to see what the engine actually likes. 27 seems kind of high, but it doesn't have any KR and it is low compression with a lot of overlap on the cam.
