So does he get a cookie for having the highest hp LS1 motor? Or is he actually going to race it? I just dont see the point of buying a motor that makes the most hp unless youre intent is to race it, and if thats the case shouldnt you shoot for a time rather than a dyno number?

100% true. However, for these LS1 motors, a dyno is the best available tool for estimating ET and MPH. A motors ability to make a good peak number and hold that number usually is the determining factor as to how fast it will go.

I think Futral would be your best bet also. If he has an unlimited budget, Allan can do some CRAZY things.

Peace,
Josh

yes, he's going to race it and I think we can all agree that the highest hp motor should also be the quickest.

And he also knows he can buy a 900+ hp SBC for around $15,000, so I'm sure that is also part of his thinking in terms of prices.

i'm sure a 900+ hp ls1 would be way more than 15 grand.if he wants the highest hp sb ,sonny leonard builds some huge na hp engines.otherwise judson at sam or alan at futural for the ls1 build.

A 900+HP LSX motor is going to require C5-R heads.

You've kinda gotten back to my first point. No one has ever built a 900 hp n/a LS1 motor and it is probably not possible, and no one has ever built a 900 hp n/a C5R motor and even it might not be possible. How about 800 fwhp?

i would go see alan futral. for my buildup i sent my combo to him. i think 750-800 flywheel hp is possible with enough money. i think it will take 25K dollars +++ in the motor alone. probably more.

800 can be done with LS6 heads pretty easily. I would guess that 875 would be the limit for an LS6 headed motor.

I'd be willing to bet that a C5R headed motor could get 950 without too many complications.

Totally depends on the entire setup, but you know that. I understand what you're saying now. Didn't mean to sound like a jerk with my original post, sorry about that Can't go wrong with Futral if he decides on an LS1.

900+ hp n/a sbc for 15 grand? Where at? That sounds like a killer deal.

15K would be pushing it, but if you're good at finding deals you could put together a 900HP SBC for 18K.

Shafiroff's sportman motors are pretty good. 810hp for 12 grand but then you gotta add the carb, distributor, etc and you're up to around 15 grand. And that's still short 90+ hp.

I believe Magnus on here has the E/T record for a N/A motor at the moment, does he not?

I know fear the ls1 made 588 with his 408 built by Allen Futural.
This is RWHP and is through a Turbo 400, 5000 stall, 30" slicks, huge driveshaft, 12 bolt, 4.30 gears (Not positive could be a 4.54 gear) etc.
That is probally good for 750 flywheel HP.

Go a little bigger in cube's with more bore and you could achieve 800+.
He also run mid 9's NA.
This isn't gonna be cheep. Probally 10G's for the shortblcok alone.
4 G's for the heads.
2 thousand in inake, TB, Cam, Pushrods etc.
Another 1000 for misc stuff.
Around 18,000 is I had to guess total, and that isn't adding Mucho $$$$ for better rods, or better pistons.
Good luck

I'm thinking that $20k would come close to getting it done. But I see that none of the shops have commented on this post, which I find interesting.

In terms of the price for a 900 hp sbc, I don't think you would have much trouble finding a small shop to build one for around $15,000. One of the intersting points here is that the best builders seem to prefer smaller cid motors (383-408) on the highest hp sbc. BTW, Patterson can make over 800 hp from their 316 cid sbc!
