Default Hot Cam results - too high?

388 rwhp at 5550 on a Dynomite dyno. Number corrected, but standard as opposed to SAE. rwtq peaked at 407 at 4500, but was basically a table top curve around 360 rwtq all the way across. A/F was right on 12.5ish starting to move toward 12.1ish past 5500.

Car has hotcam, mac mids, ORY, magnaflow, LS6 intake, and all the other normal mods . . .

Tq numbers (the peak over 400) seem high, car was at 365/380 uncorrected on a dyno jet on a very hot/humid day before pulley and last tune.

I wondered about the dyno to be honest, so looked at some other cars for comparison, a CTS V with catback, CAI and minor tuning hit 355 rwph on the dyno.

Any, I was pretty happy with the numbers, both peak HP and flat TQ curve, don't have a scanner though so can't post dyno.

Does seem a little high, but damn nice. Sounds like some killer torque.

Why does everyone think a small cam like that is not going to make power? I think its a good cam. I have seen almost 400 on a dynojet with that cam in the past. Nothing wrong with his power. I think from your A/F you told us you could benifit from fixing that and gaining more power. Any cats? And where are you taking the A/F signal?

The power number is very believable....it just the TQ number that seems a bit off.

Nice numbers....

Thanks for all the comments, I've just taken a new cam off my winter list. The A/F was taken from the tailpipe. I would like to spend some time on the dyno and lean it out a little to see what happens. Depending on how the car responds, I suspect I might get 5-7 more hp out of it - pretty close to 400.

Funny thing - one of the import kids was hanging around when I started my car to pull in. He asked if it was stock - A hotcam set at 850 idle with a hard lope through a full exhaust w/o cats shouldn't be mistaken for stock . . . maybe he hangs around the top fuel crowd . . .

Rick,
Sperry's A4 with 3.73's did over 400 with some heads (I for got the brand but NOT LS6,6l or 5.3's) and went 11.5 all day long!!

Again, it's the combo. It also likes the juice!!! I got 88RWPH from a 100 dry kit!

Congrats jjones!

From my experience, I will never take A/F from the tail pipe again. And if you have cats, you cant do it. The only right way to do this is before the cats at the header where the other O2's are at. Do this, and you will be differences in your tuning and your power. And if you know what to look for in these cars A/F wise, you will something you never thought you could do. And yes, not to give it all away, but LS1's do like to run leaner.

Good numbers from a hotcam. I jumped in this thread expecting some laughter from all the BS i read about hot cams.

When i installed my wideband it said 24" from the turbo. I forgot what it said when ran N/a through headers, didnt apply to me. Point being as rick said, stickin the sniffer at the end isnt going to do much, let alone read accuratly. Its about as good as those awesome autometer a/f gauges...

Low 12s is kinda fat for running on Hp only. unless theres some "dry" substance awaiting entry.

Ps. Its import owners (ricers) like you spoke of that make me embarassed to drive my honda. Then i blast the 1320 and remember what seperates me from them.

Those numbers are pretty damn good. Could you post a more complete list of your mods? I'm just curious.

My wife and I each have a toyota as our daily driver, so I'm not biased but know what you mean.

That list is pretty damn close to the mod list of a car I just recently looked at....hence the reason this thread grabbed my attention!!!

Damn I wish I could come up with the money right now to get that car before it sells! It's a '99 SS. Only difference is that he has Stainless LT's and true dual exhaust. Other than that, same list!

Very, very nice!
