Default How do bolt-ons affect a/f?

I am trying to decide if I need a tune/tuner at this point. Mods are in sig.

Has anybody dynoed with similar mods and no tune? If so, what was the air/fuel like? Also, if/when you did get your tune, how much power did you pick up?

Thanks,
Kris

You definitely need a tune.

I find it amazing that people actually mod cars and leave them untuned.

I agree. I just bought this car with the mods already installed. All of my previous modded cars have been tuned.

what's an even better amazement is thinking just because someone puts a part on, it has to have a tune. case in point. the wife's car has all the bolt-ons and vinci ported heads. tuned it when i had the borla catback on. gained 17 rwhp. turned around and put the bassani tru-duals on. it made 1 less hp than the tuned w/borla. tried tuning it, kept losing 3 rwhp with lots of tuning tried. best power made was with stock tune. so, it runs with stock tune.

you just don't know if it needs a tune until you get it on a dyno and try it out and see what's going on.

My A/F was at 14.3:1 with mostly the same mods Kris, minus the MAF ends. Brian (hitech) told me I would probably pickup 8-12 HP at peak, but a lot under the curve.

It's really about a safe A/F ratio as well as other things such as timing. Any change in airflow requires a A/F check IMO.

You at least have to make a pull to see where you're at unless you have a wideband.
