Default Thunder CheaTR cam makes 433 rwhp with headers

Very pleased to see that a cam that was designed specifically for exhaust manifolds still responded to the addition to long tube headers and a catted y-pipe. Yesterday, my car pulled 411 rwhp and 388 tq with the addition of the FAST 90/90 intake. Today, after adding Kooks 1 3/4" headers and their catted y-pipe, the car responded to the tune of 433 rwhp and 399 tq. That's a nice gain of 22 rwhp at the peak, but torque gains of 15 rwtq at 3500 were especially nice.

Considering this is a really small, stock idling cam (215@.050"), I'd have to say I'm very pleased to be running some good numbers, but with totally stock street manners. Hats off to Thunder Racing for kickass work.

Nice #'s. Were you still able to maintain that stock sound you've tried so hard to achieve?

Sound out the tailpipe is still stock. The headers amplifiy the valve noise somewhat (as expected), but with the hood closed it's pretty hard to notice. What I really like is the stock driving manners and awesome gas mileage. Great combination for a daily driver.

That is what I expected you to say. Great results, great combination!!!

What size chambers are the AFRs and what head gaskets did you use???

I will get my dyno results today... I'll post them later. My baseline with the Honker intake was 357RWHP/349RWTQ before the heads and cam.

C6 /LS2 with AFR 205s w/ Cheatr cam
Honker intake 11:1 compression

Very nice numbers but I think you give "too much" credit to that cam, the heads have A LOT to do with your dyno numbers.

I'm sure you'll catch a lot of people off guard with your set up, Have fun with your car!!!!

Very nice Patrick. I have a question though. How long do you think the intake valve springs are going to last. That's alot of lift with that duration. Your definition of street car is very close to mine. I want a cam for my Z06 that will put down some power, drive like stock, and not kill the valve springs. You have an awsome combination, congrats.

60cc AFR chambers and stock GM MLS gasket. Static compression ratio is around 11.0-1.

Hardtop: I have lots of faith in the dual springs that AFR uses in the 205s. They're like the Manley duals, the PRC duals and Patriot Golds. All made by the same company and have a reputation of lasting a long time. Geoff at Thunder Racing has about 35k miles on his Old Man Cam in his truck with the same springs. The OMC uses the same intake lobe as the CheaTR.

Billiumss: You're right. The key to the power is the induction. The AFR 205s and the Mamofied FAST 90/90 would make any 346 sing and dance. I just may get the hankering to put in a bigger cam just to see how well a conventional strip cam with some overlap would work.

I'll second that. AFR heads make ALL the difference. I wish I had a set.

Being that this is my daily driver, I wanted to keep the quieter sound and cleaner smell coming out of the exhaust. It's only a few hp penalty anyway.

Awesome bro-those are wicked #'s. I'm adding longtubes back to the Z06 this weekend while I wait for the CheatR to show up! I'll be running it through the stock Z06 cats to keep the sound down. Did I hear you say a bigger cam? You crazy bugger how are we gonna keep up with you! How about a 220/230 .600/.600 on a 115?

Nah, too small. Had a case of temporary insanity after installing headers and added a bigger cam just to see what it would do. New numbers in signature. Still running through cats.
