Dyno question (hope this is in the right section)

Dyno question (hope this is in the right section) Hey guys, last night (christmas eve) my dad and I had a conversation.. He wanted to know a mathmatical equation.. I told him that there are far too many variables involved to get an accurate number.. He was thinking if he takes X (1/8 mile E.T.) and Y (vehicle weight).. he should be able to come up with Z (vehicle horspower).. I hope I was right when I told him my answer.. To me there are WAY too many other variables such as traction, elevation, tempature, and so on, to come up with even a close guess.. So I told him that since I was putting N20 and a tourque converter 
in my car I would be buying some dyno time afterwards to see what it will put down.. I invited him to bring his truck at that time and dyno it as well.. Its a 1968 Chevy C-10 that we rebuilt together.. It came as a 3 speed on the column, but has since been moved to the floor.. It was also originally a light duty transmission and after I busted 2 of them 
we found a HD unit.. Does anyone know what gear he would put it in to dyno it?? I would assume the gear thats 1:1 or the closest to it, but I dont know the ratios of each gear.. also was I right to tell him he cannot possibly get a close horsepower number with the formula he was trying to use,
