Default 382ci dyno #s - 505rwhp/478rwtq

I finally got around to rebuilding the motor in the black car (2000 black WS6). After 135k miles, it was burning a TON of oil. Since it was out of the car, why not put some nice pistons, rods, and crank in?? Always upgrade.. never replace!

Specs on the new motor:
- LS1 block
- Mahle -6cc 3.905" pistons
- Mahle rings (1.5/1.5/3mm, std tension)
- Eagle LS1 specific 6.125" connecting rods (ARP 2000 bolts)
- King rod and main bearings; Durabond cam bearings
- Callies 4.00" crankshaft
- PRC stage 2.5 5.3l heads (2.04/1.57 valves)
* coated Comp 921 valvesprings
- Thunder Racing 7.350" pushrods
- Thunder Racing 235/248 .653/.618 112lsa (110* intake centerline)
- ARP head and main studs
- Melling high-volume oil pump (ported)
- Comp adjustable timing set
- Comp OEM replacement lifters

Mods on the rest of the car:

- Whisper lid
- LS6 85mm MAF
- Thunder Racing 1 3/4" headers
- Mufflex 3" y-pipe
- ASP pulley
- Hooker catback
- FAST 90mm intake (ported)
- Nick Williams 90mm throttle body
- Delphi 37lb injectors
- Racetronix 255lph fuel pump w/ voltage booster
- GM Motive 4:10s, stock rear
- Spec stage 3 clutch, steel flywheel

- Full road race suspension (Koni shocks, Suspension Techniques springs, BMR LCA, PHR, 1LE sway bars,etc...)

The car put down 505rwhp/478rwtq with the cutout open. The car needs a ton of tuning (A/F was 14:0:1), so I think it will make an easy 515+ is possible after the tune is done. I was very pleased with the setup considering how mild the cam is (at least in this size motor)! You can really feel the extra torque on the street over a 346ci setup!

Here is a TON of pics of the motor assembly and install:

http://www.thunderracing.com/users/jason/382buildup

BTW, stock rear, 4:10s and this kind of power = KABOOM!! I'll post some pics later of the damage! They didn't even last one evening with the new motor. I put some new 4:10s in on Sunday night (midnight) so I could make class at 8:30am!

Geoff@Thunder has his new emulator which makes tuning driveability, idle, etc. much easier! It is really cool to see changes happen in real-time and not having to re-flash the computer everytime a change is made.

So, finally, I have my car back on the road again!

While I had the motor out, I had Allan@FMS go through my T56. It shifts awesome now. It's like I have a whole new car with the new motor, new tranny, and new gears!

HUGE thanks to everyone who helped along the way - Natalie, John, Jonathan, etc... the car wouldn't be on the road without them!

Jason

Glad to be the first one to Congrat ya Jason

This kind of power definitely put ya in 408's high CR N/A territory & considering the A/F ratio there's much more power for that stock rearend to handle hah

if ya have the time post the graph , oh just a few things to ask how much the heads milled & what is the CR ?!

looking forward for track #'s man..good luck !!

peace

Badass Jason. That's some tremendous power for such a streetable package. You've got 427 power at a 383 price! Can't wait to get a ride!

Congrats to ya on building such an efficient package Jason. It's pretty hard to beat that kind of power with a somewhat mild camshaft. I bet the drivability is nice.

Kuddos to ya!

Sick numbers. You must be making a lot of 408 guys jealous.

Congrats on the numbers. I'm not trying to steal your thread but I keep seeing great numbers from these type setups. I find these setups more appealing than a 408 setup but the cost is almost the same, why? The cranks I find for a setup like this are so damn expensive. Do they make a budget 4 inch crank?

Yep Eagle makes a good budget 4.00" crank. The 382 and 408 cranks are the same stroke

The 408 iron block is an additional 80#s aslo.

Very impressive!

I went with the 382 because I didn't want to add the ~100lbs to the front of my car with the iron block. Plus, I have built a ton of LS1 based motors for the past 6 years, but only 1 other 382. I just really wanted to try something different and see what I could get out of it.

You seem to make a habit out of getting good numbers like this on all of your motors

Congrats!!

First of all congrats! thats Awesome to see this because its pretty simular to the set up im doing right now. Wondering if you got a chance to play with the tune at all, was curious if it would yield even better results.

I'm also curious as to why you had to use 7.350" pushrods. was it due to milling a certain amount off of the heads, if so how much did you take off.

Is there any vids of the car idle?

Just curious looking at new cam trying to get an idea.

Damn good numbers. I was trying to find a power adder in the mods list but couldn't find one. Lots of lift on that cam but the duration seems mild. I was also wondering what the idle sounds like once tuned.
