Default Trailblazer SS Tuning

We finally had the chance to tune a 2WD Trailblazer SS today.. the results were impressive to say the least. I guess everyone saying they are held back by the factory is an understatement. This particular truck had only a muffler welded into the factory catback and picked up 50 RWHP and 48 RWTQ just from tuning. We did another pull just to make sure we could back those numbers up and it made within 3 RWHP and RWTQ. The truck was hot when it got here and we found that the factory tune was pulling 8 degrees of timing. We fixed that along with the shift points and torque management.

Attached is a video of the truck on the dyno and an overlay of the stock pull and our tune.

On other boards people have seen 30-40 HP improvement when 100% stock. Your numbers seem to be about right on.

Don't they come with 4.10's from the factory?

Wow, that was a retarded low base line. Did GM pull that much out of the TB?

Sounds about right. My friend had his TBSS tuned by MTI Racing and ended up with 340rwhp. I think his baseline was higher however. I can't wait to see a heads/cam TB.

Those have got to be the lowest baseline #'s Ive seen yet....

But the tune looks good...

I had mine tuned w/HP tuners, bone stock with the tune it made 331rwhp and 347rwtq...

I dyno'd mine when it was really hot (the engine) so I assume the timing was backed out a lot (on the first couple of tries I could not figure out how to shut off the traction control / stabiltrack). At wide open throttle it would only go about 30 mph. After that it did around 309 sae stock. Most seem to be in the 32x range on a dynojet. The increased power and reduction in torque management from a tune makes these trucks alot more fun.

The only thing amazing is that baseline. Here is a bone stock 2WD TBSS we dynoed. These are probably more tipical baseline numbers. The problem I see with these kinds of posts are TBSS owners who do not get 40 or 50 hp gains with a tune thinking they got a bad tune when it was the low baseline that produced those gains.

The muffler on this tbss, was that a swap for the stock muffler?

Not bad, that seems about right... will you offer a mail order tune with these parameters..

Thats impressive. My mom has a 2006 2wd SS....what is the method for dynoing these trucks? I know my Lightning is 70mph with the overdrive off to keep from it kicking down and getting a bogus run. What is the mph/gear selected to go WOT on a dyno?

The pull on the one I posted was from 85 mph to 127 mph. Had to run it up that high to keep it from downshifting.

We clearly stated the truck was hot, and was pulling out 8 degrees of timing, there is no nonsense in the graph its a dyno jet, and the numbers don't lie. It was corrected numbers to corrected numbers (also in the same correction factor), we were amazed ourselves, but given the ridiculous amount of spark retard that GM pulls for hot inlet temp, (again clearly stated in the first post)explains to me the reason for the horsepower difference.

Just some info for you (and other trailblazer owners) this vehicle also had an a different exhaust which can cause an increase in airflow, to educate people that don't know, Gm uses a timing curve based on airflow, and unfortunally for people who modify there vehicles without a tune can sometimes have a reverse effect in horsepower, as I explained to this customer. The timing in the trailblazer is low from start, and it gets worse as you move up on the airflow scale, just as this vehicle did and may have had an impact on the baseline.

No one here wants to falsify any info to our customers or potential customers that why I wanted to make certain that it was explained before this thread gets out of hand.

In response to obzidion
yes we will also do tunes mail order

Thanks

hey, i like it spelled better than way!!

Obzidion ...heheh... sounds like a name for one of the grreat titans tha truled before the time of zues...

Now, will that mail order require me to send you a PCM and have it locked to your parameters? seems logical that it would....

We don't lock the PCM at all, the only people that lock it is LS1 Edit users to my knowledge. I had one customer who had a shop here in Michigan tune his trailblazer, and we were unable to read it out, we couldn't get past the security key. But after further conversation with the customer we found out it was tuned with LS2 Edit. I took the truck to a dealer and a buddy of mine tried to reflash it with dealer software and we were unable to do it. It kind of worried me cause if a truck goes in for warranty work there might be some issues with the dealer. I do however have a friend of mine who has a copy of LS2 edit so we can now get around that issue. If a truck happened to be tuned with that software.

Yes you will have to send it to me, we can turn it around in one day though.

Thanks

Dan Millen
