I just ordered a custom 224/228 on a 114 LSA. It will be installed on my car with stock heads and with the 921 upgrade spring package with Titanium retainers.

I will post my dyno numbers after the install. I was looking for midrange power as well, instead of higher peak RPMs.

Hoping for around 385 with QTP headers, LS6 intake, ported TB, and dyno tune.

The jagged line was just an anomoly with the MTI dyno. I've since done more tuning and re-dynoed and the line is smooth as glass. See the graph by clicking the dyno numbers in my signature.

One of the biggest reasons my cam makes good power is the well-chosen valve events. It will work well with stock type heads too. Keep in mind, I have lots of compression. If I were running stock compression, I'd add more advance to the cam to bring up dynamic compression (probably +2).

that tr torque series cam is pretty nice.
is there one with similare torque curve, but with less lift, say, just under .600"?

An XE-R grind with 228/232 .588/.592 110LSA +1 would be equivalent to what I have, but keep in mind, this cam would be ideal for a vehicle with over 11.0:1 compression. If you still have stock heads, then you'll want more advance to the cam to bring up dynamic compression. The same cam with +4 advance woud be better for bone stock lower compression heads.

from my sig, i think i would be at around 10.8 or so CR with the ls6 stg 2 heads i have.
my dilemma has been a choice between the tsp 228r or torquer 2, but this thread is opening another door. tuning is a question as well. i am tuning it.
that much torque like yours is something i wouldn't mind having. especially with an 04 GTO weighing approx. 300lbs more than an fbody.

thanks for any info and help. i have been doing research for quite a while already, and this thread of yours, well...seems to be a good answer, i.e., the xe-r grind you suggest.

That's also a great AUTO cam choice......
One other HUGE point "Patrick," is that cam your running would be even faster for a "stalled auto car".....With a decent extension down to say 5250-5500 from the shift at 7000 rpms. There's an extra 10 horse power in that cam in that sweet spot (stall extension rpm for most good stalls) and would be atleast a tenth faster if not two tenths faster from that extra power, in that area. Than the other choices you tried...Narrower LSA (meaning.....correct valve events) plus the right DCR sure can make a difference...

so if I have stock heads advance the cam with an adjustable roller timing chain +2 . you said it would put stock ls1 at 8.0 dcr + 2 degrees or 4 would equal ? dcr

You can advance the cam with the timing gears or just have it ground with the advance you need.....Seems like 8.5 DCR is some of the highest numbers I'v seen for pump gas on an LS1. 8 DCR sounds like stock numbers and would be very easy to run. 8.2-8.3 is what you might shoot for but you guys have way better flowing head option than we do (not counting 15-18 degree or raised runner heads) and you might need to keep down that DCR...

GENERALLY....+2 will ad .2 to DCR. +4 will add .4. This is generally.....You need to use a good DCR calculator and keep changing your intake lobe closing point at "ABDC" to get your required DCR....

Keep in mind, the stock '98-00 F-body only has 6.9:1 DCR. It takes a lot to get the dynamic compression of a stock long block into the 8s.

Wow that's pretty damn low...Considering you can just about get any aluminum headed carb engine to run at 8 with 92 octane. Have you seen the stock cams intake lobe closing point (ABDC)? If so, please give me numbers, enquiring minds want to know..........In the "LT" world, every body talks about stock LT1's engine DCR's of 8.3-8.7. But, I know of knowone who has yet posted the stock cams intake ABDC figures so, our is just guess work. Maybe I'll have to check a stock cam in mine, next cam swap. And see what numbers I get for our old stuff.

Yep, with that 81 degree abdc there sure wouldn't be much DCR. Hell, I use that area on my 12.48 SCR stroker...

Question

so 6.9 dcr , 10:1 scr is what I have now stock internal engine . With just this cam the dcr will increase to 8.0:1 [cam only]. The stock heads , gaskets will still remain at 10.0:scr ? advanced + 2 it will increase to 8.2 dcr
tsp PRC spring kit aight with this cam ? I have unmilled heads so whats the best pushrod length ? appreciate the help , dont want to fubar my only engine

My cam in a stock motor will give it around 8.0:1 DCR, but advancing the cam 2 degrees raises DCR .1 (on tenth) and 4 degrees advance raises it .2 (two tenths).
