Ok guys, my buddy Verbs posted this thread for an arguement we are having...

I agree 100 percent, the Flowmaster catback for F-bodies sucks, our arguement is about a C6 Corvette catback, which uses 2 mufflers, just like a mustang catback, its not the cross flow dog **** like the F-body one...

That means...

We are interested in Corvette dyno numbers, or guys that have/had true dual setups on F-bodies with Flowmasters..

I have the flowmaster muffler, not even the catback, so would that be even worse?

I personally find it hard to believe that a true dual setup with flow 1 chambers would flow any worse than any other non-straight-through muffler.

I do, however, agree that a bullet or similar will outflow it. I think the flows sound a whole lot better though, and I will be going with the one chambers.

372 rwhp through Flowmaster, 395 rwhp through 2 dual open cutouts at Futral, I will see if I can find the dyno sheet.

80 series mufflers is not the same as one chambered flowmaster. One chamber muffler will flow better than 80 series.

I have a dual setup on my car with the 1 chamber Flowmaster race mufflers - they flow great and make good power - a bit loud dumped before the axle though. We are gonna put the pipes out the back one of these days.

Above, I was refering to the F-body crossflow catback - they suck.

My car went from 331 to 351 by removing the flowmaster muffler and going true duals.

From the looks of this thread I really either need to get a cut out or trash the flowmaster (80series). I have heard that they eat up quite of bit of power....

I'm staying with true dual one chambers. Will flow plenty. Maybe i'll get the 3" muffler with the 2.5" piping.

I have the flowmaster 80 series and a cutout in the I-pipe. I saw a 20 rwhp gain by opening the cutout.

I had a 3" single Flowmaster with a cutout right before the bend going into the muffler.
312 through the muffler
330 with the cutout open.

The crossflow is the bad one. All the others do okay!

Maybe the single large ghey muffler for the F-Bod sucks, but true dual vs. true duals with the same exact mid pipe doesn't show much of a change. I've ran several catback sets on Mustangs of all power ranges and there were almost 0 difference at the track. I remember reading an old Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine a few years back where they dynoed EVERY single weld in muffler on a 400rwhp blown 5.0 ( Flowmaster, Borla, Magnaflow, MAC, etc. about 15 brands in total). The difference between the best and the worst muffler was only 5 rwhp or so. If you are running true duals, choose a muffler based on sound only.

Please, don't quote muffler vs. muffler numbers if anything else was changed at the time (inlet/outlet size, cats/no cats, mid-pipe design, headers, etc.) Keep it consistent.

I had a single in, single out, and gained almost 20hp by opening the cutout! Not a crossflow, the regular style Flowmaster.
