Im about to purchase a 2002 trans am ws6 w/36000 miles on it and the guy claims to have 500 hp with the following.
Engine:

- LS6 Aluminum engine block
- LS6 Composite intake manifold
- Absolute Speed Stage II ported heads with 987 double valve springs and titanium retainers, Ferrea valves, 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust.
- 10.9:1 CR
- 224/224-duration camshaft
- Quick Time Performance stainless steel long tube headers
- Under drive Pulley
- 3 inch exhaust
- High flow mufflers with stainless steel tips
- Ported throttle body
- High flow air box and filter
- Hardened push rods
- ARP engine bolts

Other:
- Sub frame connectors
- Lower control arms
- BMR torque arm
- Hurst shifter
- JL Sub in JL Stealth Box with amp
- 18X9.5 inch Chrome Z06 Wheels
- New BFG G-Force tires.
Did late 02 TA's really come from the factory with ls6 block and ls6 intake??
I've done a little research and dont believe the car to have 500 hp at the motor but was just hopping to get a little feedback from some people. Thanks

It's rumored that some late 02s got LS6s (heads, block, cam) and all 01-02s received an LS6 intake.

500HP at the crank is acheivable with those parts. Would really only need 430rwhp or so, and that should be pretty doable.

Ditto. The LS6 intake was used on F-bodies starting in 2001. The LS6 block has no advantage over the LS1 though. Check out the FAQ's for details.

Ask him for a dyno sheet.

Yea,.thats a need to see a dyno sheet. And no, I believe very strongly that it didn't come with a "LS6" cam. To my understanding, 01 and 02 came with a slightly smaller vortech cam.

That's correct. I don't know of any F-bodies that received the LS6 cam.

He didnt say it came with an ls6 cam he just said it had a 224/224 cam. The car sounds great!! As for dyno numbers, he doesnt have any. Only claims that other similiar projects have had between 500-525 hp. Do you guys think that this sounds like a good or bad setup? Approx. how much power is the came good for? I've looked in other places and it looks like a nice streetable cam.

how about this stuff?
Absolute Speed Stage II ported heads with 987 double valve springs and titanium retainers, Ferrea valves, 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust.
Is that all good?

Yeah, it's good stuff. A buddy with an '02 WS6 made 395 to the wheels with a TR224, M6 and stock heads. It's very possible the heads on your car would pick that up 30rwhp, which would get you very close to 500 at the crank.

The LS6 cam comments weren't to you, but the guy that replied to you.

Im liking the feedback so far. In your opinion is this reliable and not creating too much stress on things creating future problems? Thats assuming everything is installed right.

Shouldn't cause any longevity problems as long as it's maintained well and hasn't been over-revved.

This sounds like a nice setup. Don't take the above a gospel. Too much crap being slung around when people make comments like this. That's like, "Well, I know my friend's car runs 12.XXX and I beat him in a street race so I know my car will do 11's". Too many unforeseen variables in bench racing. I'd have it dynoed and see what it does. 500 engine horsepower is entirely possible. Wheel horsepower? Not a chance.

Also, don't fall for the hype about the LS6 block. Really doesn't mean crap. And to second the board, all 2001 and up cars come with the revised intake, a.k.a the "LS6" intake.

Looks like a bunch of quality parts, too. I'd say give it a shot! Good luck!

I know of a few rumored "LS6s" from late 02s that were putting down about 350rwhp bone stock. I believe if these cars received the LS6, then they got the complete LS6. But, I've never actually seen one--so it may be a unicorn. Also, in 02, the LS6 cam was revised from the 01. I can't remember if it was smaller or what, but that doesn't matter. The car has a 224 in it now.

And as far as the Absolute Speed heads go, if they are 243s (LS6), then they should make very good power.

I would say that set up is very close. Jay made some very good heads. I would put my Absolute Speed stg. 2 5.3 heads up against any aftermarket head out there for what we payed for them. My numbers are in my sig and if you use 15% drivetrain loss, my setup is just over the 500 mark. Let me know if you have any questions.
