I'm embarressed to say that I do not know what the preload is. I totally relied on Erik to get the valve train spot on and he obviously did exactly that. I'm running Morel lifters and stock rockers.

I can tell you that I haver had some serious issues with improper preload on a set of the Comp R lifters. The lifters are fine if you use them as they are designed and set them up with adjustable rockers to get the preload right.

I'm running Patriot Gold springs on the ETP 5.3 heads if that helps.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I have comp lifters also I believe. This isn`t looking good from what you say. Can you get the right preload and the comp lifters with stock rockers?

The Comp "R" lifters are the ones that are preload sensitive. The Comp 850s are fine. The Comp Rs require a .020-.010 preload and trying to shim a stock rocker shaft to get there is very close to impossible. The Comp R lifters have a preload disc built into them so if you exceed Comps preload spec, you run the risk of having the lifters pump up and hold the valve open at higher rpms.

I'm no expert, but I have had to deal with this exact problem and remember the details vividly.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the props guys. I hope to bump a 9.9X this Fall, but I've got some more $$$ races to win first
