Default locked vs unlocked

Roughly how much of a difference does it make to dyno an A-4 car with the TC locked vs unlocked?

It really depends on the type of converter.

Below are my old converters and friends converters. I listed the hp difference between locked and unlocked

vig 3200 -------------- 15 hp
Yank pt4000 ---------- 20 hp
vig 3800 -------------- 40 hp
TCS 3200 ------------- 27 hp
Yank ss 3800 ---------- 23 hp

I hope that helps

Thanks it does give me some hope. I am just really bummed that I could't even crack 300 but it was unlocked.

TCI 4400 - 29 rwhp

The larger the speed usually the higher the loss, all depends on the brand, etc.

My first time on the dyno with the same boltons you have plus a ported throttle body I dynoed 300 at the wheels through a unlocked vig 3600.

I've done some searching and can't quite get this sorted out.

I had always assumed that the converter is locked @ or near it's stall rating. Can a the converter be controlled through the computer? If running on a dyno locked and unlocked is an option, what would be the purpose of running unlocked vice locked when setting peak performance / WOT?

On the dyno you ussaually lock the converter through the computer while tuning.
