Default Patrick G.... critique my combination!

Patriot Dual spring 5.3 heads ported with 2.02 and 1.57 valves
Flow 298 @ .600 and 231@ .600
Flow 197 @ .300 and 170@ .300
standard 5.3 mill......

I have a Comp 226/226 cam on a 114LSA (can't remember the lift around 580/580 or so iirc)

Car dyno'd 405rwhp and 400tq with m6 and moser 9 spooled with TT2 wheels.

I am considering a Fast90/90 setup.... do you advise it with this cam.
I would also consider a bigger cam change. what do you think? Is this cam worth keeping. I do have nitrous on the car. 520/540 on a 110shot.

What is the DCR of this setup??

This cam dies at 6k.... if needed I can post a dyno graph.

Thanks in advance for your opinion/input.

FAST 90/90 is always a worthwhile option on a heads/cam vehicle. I don't know what your DCR is without knowing what your installed intake centerline is. Judging by the high toque peak, I would guess that it would be 110 ICL. A larger cam can give you lots more power under the curve, but it will come at the expense of street manners.

The bigger question is, how good of a tuner are you or how much driveability are you willing to sacrifice for more power?

Drivability is a 4 out of 10 concern for me. It is not a daily driver but does see some street use.

the SD tune was done by SQR ...... they are one of the 2 shops that do this in the dfw area and it was done almost perfect! tune is on the money.... no surging or bucking......

One of my favorite cams is the G5X-3, but I like it even better on a 110LSA.

234/242 .598/.610 110LSA +4

This cam is a torque monster, but also pulls very well up high.

what kind of gains with that cam vs my 226 would you expect? and what kind of power do you think the -2 degrees of timing/moser 9"/TT2 wheels are eatin up??

I was thinking between 10-15 horses?? If so that would put me on a 10 bolt around 420rwhp with the H/C...... can I use the same heads with the G5x-3 cam?? they are 5.3's unmilled with larger valves??

Those heads are junk Mike....If they truly have a 2.08 intake vavle the flow is real weak man but thats what you got for 750 i guess it cant be that bad.

nope..... valves are 2.02 and 1.56 if i recall correctly.

the chart has it wrong.... and the wrong date..... and the wrong chamber sizes etc. etc...... gunnar flowed em last minute. iirc.

Junk??

Lets see.... went from 375 to 385 or so with your True Duals... then added 20 more with the heads (even after putting heavy *** wheels and a 9 inch that most would agree is good for 10-15rwhp worth of loss)....

that makes the heads good for 30-40 horses... more than the 20 horse from out of the box ls6's?? Mike they are stg 1 style porting, stock mil, and slightly larger valves..... they where less than 750

I've been getting good result's with 232/238 .595/.605 on 112's. Been playing with the advances looking for the best of both worlds. So far the 112+2 has been a perfect daily driver with a real good midrange -peak at 6200-6400rpm.

It's winter time,so I'll be hands on testing different Cams again

Im going by what the sheet says...2.08 intake valve!

Have gunnar come in and point that out that he made the mistake and ill believe it.

I love how most agree that 10-15 hp loss bs....

Thats why you read the site and ingest about 10% of the information you read as factual. People make excuses regardless of the combo....Its what makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside about their setup.

ANother thing with the sheet you posted and why I call your heads junk...

Take a stock 241 head castings do a good 5 axis valve job on it and you can flow 275 - 280 without the sacrifice of changing the port shape and velocites with it drastically.

Here we have a 5.3 head sheet which states 2.08 intake/1.60 exhaust and it flows 298 peak...if you start looking at the numbers it could be starting to back up. But my most important thing is they actually flow about 10-15 CFm less then whats on that sheet you posted because a bigger valve flows more air! Im just stating the obvious out here dude. you gained 20-25 hp from these "worked" stage 1 or whatever crutch you want to say, when in reality an Ls6 head with a 5 axis valve job would have flowed more on target of what the 298 claims on these heads with a 2.08 valve that this sheet shows numbers for! hell a stock 241 would have been right on target with these heads!

Get your information correct first. THe ls6 heads would have netted more curtain area in this situation because you dont have the numbers that the sheet actually claims you have. Alot of skewed information on that sheet and we all know how well the LS6 ports really flow at low and mid lift.

What do you know? That's the cam I have...only difference is that I have a 110LSA +2. I can't wait to dyno it. I don't have as good of heads as that, but the stock LS6's are better than the 853's. Depending on the tune, this can be a VERY streetable cam and a very intimidating one at that. I recommend it 100%. Big power without the huge lift of LSK lobes.

I really like the idea of a G5X3 on a 110+4. Any results from one? Where would it peak at?

What you don't know is I talked to Gunnar for awhile about that sheet..... He didnt change most of the information in his computer before printing it out. They have 2.02 and 1.57 valves.... the flow numbers on the sheet are the heads before he shipped them out. The top right has TRT on it....as well as the same number that is stampled on the head. The date says 2005 or something.

I have the sheet if ya wanna see. So 298 vs 220..... even valved 241's that flow 270?? I still think the compression raise and price can't be beat. I bought heads cuz i needed em due to a valve problem and only having 918 springs...

Good reason to start a poll! I talked to a fella yesterday that said he lost 9rwhp after swapping from a 10bolt to 9 inch. of course dynos can vary from one to the next.... and it does make me feel warm and fuzzy...... my goal was over 400rwhp NA on the 346........ done.
