Default Need help with cam!!

What do you guys think about putting a cam in my car and leaving the factory manifolds? It's a 99 Z28 6 speed with lid, Ported TB, FRA,TR55 plugs,and hooker maxflow muffler. What cam would you sugguest? It's a daily driver so I want somthing with good drivability. How much power do you think I would make by not putting headers on with my cam? Thanks

by not adding longtubes you are leaving a lot on the table. yes, you will gain 20-30 rwhp on manifolds. the more you open the exhaust, the better the engine can breath, the more power you will make.

Thanks for your input, I just wish long tubes weren't such a pain in the *** to install. I was just curious how much power I could make with out having to do headers right now. I probable will go a head and buy some pace setters and a off road y-pipe. The driver side doesn't look like it will be that bad but the passenger side looks like it will be a pain. Do you have to put the header in from the top or bottom? Is there a write up on here that tells how to install long tube headers? Thanks

Headers are easy to install The passenger side fits right in no problem at all the driver side there is an oil block off plate above the oil filter 2 10mm bolts and the steering shaft I also remove the clutch line's heat shield and the header goes in easy. I would buy some header studs too makes things that much easyer.

P.S you have to take all the plugs out of the motor too.

If your daily driving her I would go with like a 224 cam on a 114

If you are set on using stock manifolds get a cam with that favors the exhaust side by 12-15 degrees on at least a 115 LSA.Thunder Racing CheaTR cam looks good to me for that sort of thing.

I think I'm going to do headers before I go for a cam. Now I just need some information on how to install long tubes. Should I delete all my emisions crap when I install my headers?

headers are simple to install. just make sure you get the front end up high enough.

you know you'll need to upgrade your valve springs if your going with a high lift cam (fyi) i have an auto so i was worried about over camming my street driven summer driver. the ls6 has 550 lift and 218 intake / 204 exhaust with 117 lsa. very mild,no lope sound. i would have gone slightly bigger, since you've got a manual do you want to hear the lope? good luck!

Yes I thought I would have to upgrade my springs, what springs would you guys suggest? How much lift can ls6 springs handle? And yes I want a cam that has a good lope to it.

you can run stock manifolds. 224/224 would be good for what you want.
