Default dynoed my bone stock 99 Viper

well took my 26K mile 99 Viper to a dyno jet...

now simply for comparison. My 2004 auto c5 put down 299 rwhp and 309 rwt on this dyno jet..

My bone stock 99 viper put down 410 rwhp and 465 rwt.

Then last week i added an air intake ( AKA smooth tubes) and replaced the cats with a straight pipe.

Went back to the same dyno and put down 428 rwhp and 473 rwt SAE...

I know thats kinda week for a 488 ci...But with more bolt ons and some good heads and a good tune Im shooting for 600 rwhp NA.

Nice ride. I don't think it's weak at all. You've got an *** ton of torque. Do these motors really stand to gain 175 RWHP w/ bolt-ons and heads? Actually now that I think about it an LS1 can gain about 150 RWHP w/ bolt-ons, cam, and heads so yeah, 600 would be damn nice!

Yea thats exactly what i was about to say. If a 5.7 can go from 300-450 rwhp with full bolt ons and C/H then the 8.0 has no problem going from 400-600 with the same mods..

..Just like most LS1's end up being 380-430 rwhp with the above mods. Most gen 2 vipers end up being 510-560..

Of course there are those freaky stock block 460 rwhp Fbodys and 600 rwhp gen 2 vipers

With 488 Cubic inches, 600WHP should be easily attainable with the right heads. Thats a TON of displacement to work with, if you can flow enough air in and out of that motor with some good heads, manifolds, ect; its going to make some ridiculous power

Honestly, I would have expected more for a "Viper" but then again I don't know much about what they make with mods. No matter what "peak" power it makes with 488 CID I'm guessing the average power is ridiculous and of course, at the end of the day the dang thing is a V I P E R so it's gotta be nice to drive it around and watch the heads turn

Keep us updated as you upgrade it, I know I'm interested and good luck!

Yea just depends on what year you have..

1992-1995 dyno 355-375 and 445-465 rwt...488 ci 8.0

1996-2002 dyno 400-420 and 450-470 rwt...488 ci 8.0

2003-2006 dyno 435-455 and 480-500 rwt...502 ci 8.3

It's pretty fun driving it around and you get some attention. But it's not lie a Lambo or anything. But still pretty fun...

And yea the power under the curve is pretty good. I guess when I see GM getting 450 rwhp out of a 7.0 427....My 410 rwhp out of an 8.0 488 seams a little limp wristed..Then again 1999 was 8 years ago so Im not gonna complain.

Thats right where it should be. My buddies 98GTS dynoed 390rwhp 440tq with 20k miles and original air cleaners. Amazing how times have changed.

Id have to agree with you..

The 92-95's had 400-415 crank HP and normally ran 12.8-13.2 at 109-113

The 96-2002's had 450-460 crank HP and normally run 12.2-12.4 at 117-119

And the 03-03 have 500-510 crank HP and normally run 12.1-12.3 at 118-120

Their not that fast for how much power they have because of weak sauce 3.07 rear gears and vehicle weights of 3380-3460 pounds depending on year and model.....* OF COURSE THEIR ARE SOME BETTER THAN AVERAGE DRIVERS OUT THERE*

Ill go find a bone stock list for you here shortly...

Yea it was a 2.73 geared auto C5. I thought the 299/309 was pretty impressive ( especially when my previous ride was a V6 camaro with a powerdyne super charger pushing a HUGE 218 rwhp on 9 pounds of boost)

299 rwhp and 0-60 in 4.9 ( as verified by my gtech) and 13.5 at 104 ( as done at my local drag strip) was simply AMAZING for me in MAY of 2004..

Now 428 rwhp feels slow

for an auto.. that doesn't seem high b/c the vettes came w/ cam kit from the factory with a .525 lift as the f cars from 98-99 had a .500 lift and 00-02 had a .488 lift i think. that's why they are rated at 345-350 instead of 320-325 as ram air f cars.

the vette and the f use the same cam.98000=o.498
00up=0.465.the early 385hp (zo6)had the0.525 cam .the hp is 350ish on all ls1 cars.gm rates the vette higher to sell th overpriced thing.

Nice snake! Youve never taken it to the track have you? What does your year usually run from the factory? Like 12.2-12.4? 115 trap? Good luck, nice ride!
