Im not a tuner by any means but i know the principle of tuning, stock cars run slightly rich for durability purposes. i dont know what can be pulled out of a stock tune but if you leaned it out for racing than i dont see why it would'nt be possible to get more than 10-15 hp.

Because there is only so much a stock engine can do with a certain amount of fuel.

If 30-50hp were available on these cars with JUST a tune on bolt-ons then there would be a huge market for it.

10-15hp is about what anyone sees with a tune n/a unless something is really messed up.

Thats a good plan. Just don't expect a certain number and always low ball or you may get dissapointed.

yeah i think there have been a few people that made 370-385 with just bolt ons & ran times to show it, but it takes alot of work to get you there.

To the person that mentioned rockers...rockers technically shouldnt be considered a bolt on since they affect cam lift. Bolt on's are generally considered parts that don't touch oil ie intake, headers, EWP, etc.

I've seen people dyno 340-350 with nothing but a K&N, catback & an LS6 intake...but those last 50hp is always tough to come by.

personaly, i think its a waste of money to tune a near stock car(unless your A4 w/ stall). if it really made that much of a difference with just a tune, that would be everyones first mod. good luck on your quest. your going to need it.

There is power to be had from tuning a stock car. The stock tune is rich as **** so there is power and mpg to be had.

More then likely I will wait until I get a cam to tune.

This comes up now and again with the same outcome. 400 seams possible, but it is just near impossible. Most guys that come close are lean anyhow. My car with only a cut-out, ported MAF and lid did 344/361 on a Dynojet dyno. I could have come close. But fact of the matter is you will break the rear before you get a chance to get it if you are a contendor. SS cars come with free'er flowing exhaust and some had lids (335hp or 345hp option depending on year). So lots see high numbers near stock, but do not look at these things and realise they will not see full gains of BOs because of this. Now looking at my numbers I may have been a contendor. Add it up...headers/ORY 25, 90/90 10, aluminum FW/light clutch 10, pulley 5, tune 15, plugs/wires/coils maybe 5, full synthetic 5...but these claims or even observations never add up. I supose if you did all BOs to an M6 car then put a 2.73 rear in the car it is possible...ney, probable. But I would not count it.

haha dont know why you would REALLY need to tune a bolt on car...your basically just wasting cash for a tune later... but hey whatever tickles your pickle.. and good luck with the 400rwhp bolt on car............................................... ...................

I gained 9rwhp and 12rwtq from a tune on my car(lid, LTs, ory, catback) and that's from a tuner that tunes very conservatively.

Man, that is so close to the claimed 50rwhp that his tuner can get. What the hell kind of username is molester anyway? Why not just make it child_molester or something.
