in my 1968 pontiac bonneville!
went to the dyno today to see what my friend's 93 MR2 w/ upgraded turbo would put down (it ended up making 300 whp @ 16 lbs.) afterwards we decided to throw my old beater on the dyno for the hell of it.
quick specs:
1968 pontiac bonneville
400 cid 61,000 mile original engine still running strong!
th400 same mileage original transmission
open rear with 2.xx gears. dont know exactly what gears but they HAVE to be in the low 2.xx for the car to be doing 135 mph in overdrive before 5000 rpm...

car ran a 15.9 @ 87 a few years ago.
before I hit the dyno I guess 200 rwhp. looks like I was pretty close. the torque was impressive. Id imagine its making like 260-270 horsepower at the flywheel. Im not sure what the engine was rated at back in 1968. maybe 300 hp? does show you what the old cars put down from back in the day even though this is just a passenger car engine. not sure how the engine would be different had it been installed in a base GTO or firebird.
heres a vid:

dyno pull begins at about 1:15 in. watch the end for a nice burnout![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
theres a little NWS language...

Hahaha.... I had a 67 Bonneville for my first car. 400/TH400, 4-door hardtop. LOVED that car. Redid the motor and started the body work...then sold it. I think my motor was rated at 325hp/375tq. Wouldnt rev much...but ill tell ya what, that thing would light em up without much trouble. That was a cruiser! In fact...its where I got my screen name for all my internet stuff from!!! I wish I still had some pics online....I cant see your vid due to my firewall here at work, but Ill check it out later!
J.
Edit... Holy crap...forgot I had a cardomain page. Shows the work I did to the car as well as what it looked like when I got it. Check it out if ya want!!

That sounds kinda right..rater at 300hp. They rated them differently back then as you probly know already. So thats why it's so low compared to what GM said. Not much hp, but as pontiacs were known for, lots of torque

yeah, I didnt expect much power out of it as I knew the old engines were rated differently and this thing has a tiny cam in it. the only thing not stock are true duals with dynomax mufflers.
if you guys cant view that vid, go here:

thats the video. skip to a little after 4:00 to see mine on the dyno. other cars are my buddy's MR2 and another friends daily driver taurus with a 30 shot lol.
ghettocruiser, I had a 1967 bonneville parts car.

thats a picture of it. it was beat up pretty bad. I just needed the door off of it, then saved the windshields, and brake drums (ended up needing those too.) paid $100 for it and got $70 back in scrap. not a bad deal! by the way your firebird is PERFECTION. I would love to build something EXACTLY like that!
now if I could only get my dad to dyno his 1967 GTO...
