Anybody still doing 383's?
Yea if you check you usually can get a decent price. Might even work if you sell the shortblock separate and then part out the heads, cam, intake manifold, etc if your going to go with a whole new setup. Plus if you toss a reserve on it its peace of mind that you wont get hosed. Prior to selling my camaro I had an entire setup speced out for me as I was planning on selling my stock engine and upgrading to either a 383, 402 ls2 based stroker, or iron 408 and it was clear that it would be easier to get a whole new short block than having my stocker stroked to a 383. if your hand with building an engine and have a good machine shop then you can save some money but ive seen/heard disaster stories due to either machine shop errors or the owner installing the components incorrectly. Plus if you honestly price the parts out your not paying a ton more buying an assembled/balance engine from a sponsor. Hope that helps and let us know what route you go!

Hah I hear that...I just bought a house and some unexpected costs came up (renovations that my Gf wants
) and the money saved for my camaro/c5/c6 fund are now gone...I would say if you really want the 402 then just save up and run your stock setup for a little while longer because you def dont want to toss in a 383 and then be like "damn I wish i went with a 402 ls2 stroker".

I loved my 383 and since it was going to be a nitrous car I didn't need the extra cubes
