Angry I hate the dyno people....

A local car club went to a local shop in Fort Collins, Colorado and i put my car on the dyno since it was 20 dollars for 3 runs.. after the pirst two runs i was sondering why my numbers were about half of what i thought they would be when i looked down at my rear wheels and noticed there was more smoke coming from the brakes then the exhaust.. The *** hole left the e-brake on and then tried to blame it on me!!!! Then they still charged me for the dyno!!! I ended up talking to the owner of the shop and getting my money back and told me to come back with my new motor in the car and he would give me 3 free runs... On the way home i could feel a miss in the car that wasn't there that morning.. I dont know what to do and i'm to pissed to pull the valve covers and see if i broke a valve spring or blew a head gasket like every one thinks...

the e-brakes aren't strong enough to cause any significant problems to the engine. It'd be the equivalent of running WOT going uphill on a big hill. Just a hell of a lot of load.

edit: didn't notice LT1... check rear brake pads, replace if ruined, or just take some sand paper to remove any glazing.

If anything though, I'd change out those e-brake pads. They are on the inside of the disc in what pretty much is a drum brake on the rotor.
LT1's dont have e-brake pads

at least you got a good deal on the dyno?

happened before and will happen again. pay more attention to what they are doing, dont be afraid to tell them when u dont like whats going on.. its ur car..

sounds like they've appologized and made a good offer.

The issue with your car is probably in your head, like SladeX said, there isn't enough strength in the e-brake to damage anything but the brake. What did it make with the brake on though?

my bad... forgot the LT1 cars didn't have the LS1 retard rotors...

ow... resurface the pads then, might have glazed a bit due to the runs.

might be damaged rotors that could be resurfaced or not and the brake pads might be reusable or not.... hehehe but the funny thing is you caught the problem and they didn`t realize the e-brake is up after the first pull..... how could it be your fault since they were in your car pushing the gas for two times! hehehe.

Default Dude

I really dont think it matters if they did say there sorry . Put yourself in that position as he was when the fucked his car up . I would have cut the ******* throat and watched him bleed out then burnt the shop to the ground .
To me most tuners i have meet act like there **** dont stink and think they hold the key to unlocking your car, but most of them wont even let you baseline for the fact that they dont know what the **** there are doing and maybe will yeild you 5 10 hp. So if i was him i would tell him to go **** himself. I mean my car is my baby and if some tool doesnt know what the **** he is doing it go time.

Just my 2 cents . could be wrong! <----- tuners face

does your e brake warning light come on on the dash, I know the switch in the center console on my car stopped working. There was no brake warning light on the dash.

I ran a C4 with the ebrake on. Felt like an idiot! In those cars the ebrake handle drops down even engaged, so its hard to tell. And on top of that, the steering wheel was cocked just enough to block the light on the dash.
We replaced the pads, rotors, and had the calipers remanned. It was the least we could do. That dyno run cost US about 200 bucks.
Everyone makes mistakes, its all in how you handle it.
That owner is still a customer to this day.

I'm sure it was an accident. The shop owner offered hi money back and offered another free dyno run.
It sucks that it happened, but it's been settled. Resurface the rotors and move on...the pads are probably fine. Then you'll be out the $20 you were originally paying for the dyno run.
Go chop some wood and you'll feel better.

Sorry to hear that. It does suck, but good news is no major damage.
