Default Gained only 6rwhp after headers!!!

My mods are as follows:
Smooth lid
K&N air filter
Bo white ported tb
LS6 intake manifold
GMMG
-After this and a tune I ended up with 320.99 to the wheels over a baseline of 290 with catback.

Now, with-
Pacesetter Lt
Texas Speed Catted Y
New spark plugs and wires, along with a new RPM level 4 4l60e.
327 rwhp after tune.

Something just insnt right here. If anyone has input on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
-Alex

Of what Ive seen personally headers will make the car 1full point richer in the A/F count but you said it was retuned so dont know about that. Mine gained decent considering they were Edelbrock shorties:

Everybody always says not to trust A4 dyno numbers. Have you had it to the track? Doing a before/after comparison there is more likely to tell you what the headers did or didn't do for you.

Out of curiosity, how did your rwtq numbers come in?

I did not dyno my car right after the header install so I don't know how much power I gained (or lost). However, at the same 1/8th mile track one week later with the same weather conditions I picked up ~.3 and ~3 MPH untuned for the headers. I did pick up a few horsepower when tuned but only another .05 ultimately before doing other mods. Like was mentioned, go to the track and see what improvements you get there. It would not have mattered to me if I picked up only a few horsepower since I had a measurable performance increase at the track in both ET and MPH. Hit the track before you start worrying.

On a side note I have heard that the Pacesetter headers don't give you quite the performance increase of the Hooker LT's I installed at the time. I also had a SLP Loudmouth cat-back before and ran open headers after the install so some of my gain came from that.

Yeah, sometimes they just don't make the gains. I only gained 12 rwhp after headers and a dynotune for comparison.

No torque converter, I acutally had to get the trann cause mine was about to die and I found a good deal on the RPM. It feels like it has alot more power, and the tires break loose even more so in 2nd. Oh well, just wasnt expecting to make that little. He is going to print out the sheet Monday and I never got an answer about the torque numbers. I just heard way to many possibilities of why I gained so little. So torque numbers tomorrow.

its all about the combo my man. seems to me your exhuast manifolds weren't that big of a restriction with your current combo. but would be if you had a cam, heads or other mods similar to these. just be happy in knowing you will be prepared for those more intensive mods.

I'd say it's the catted Y choking it up.

If you get rid of the cats and put in a moderate size cam like a TR 224 you'll probably gain 35-40 hp easily.

From what I heard headers make the car lean...not rich. Thats what happened to my car. But Im curious....did you have the car on the same dyno?

Thats correct. They always go leanER. As for the OP, if his car was tuned before the LT install, and the A/F ratio was set in the upper 12s to 13:1, then the gain from the header install would be significantly less.
That being said, the gains are pretty damn low, and could be from a number of things. different dynos before and after, weather conditions, the tune, the trans, the list goes on.
Cant even compare unless it was dynoed right before and then right after, locked both times.

I doubt cats are the problem. My car dyno'ed good numbers bolt-ons only.

there's something wrong with that dyno or your setup...

even if it is an auto, there should be a considerable gain with exhaust, especially the longtubes, the catback would only gain so much... but longtubes + exhaust gained from 306->344, the tune only added 5 hp...

If it was dynoed unlocked for that 327 and locked for your 320... maybe that's where your missing HP went. I've seen heads (no cam), full exhaust, lid, intake pull 360HP at the wheels on an auto setup. So you should be around there too...

I've been tracking my gains with every mod I do more or less.
