402 results.....disappointment..?
Something else to consider...a 402 might require a lot more than 300+CFM to churn some nice numbers, in fact, I could confidently say it will surely take a lot more flow to have impressive results, which is why you can't go cheap on the heads w/ such a motor. Now on a 346..this might be why some guys have had better result w/ Patriots--because they are being used on stock displacement LS1's.
Oh yeah, I know a nice way to achieve really, really good numbers.. but you should probably wait til' you get some 225's and a better cam though first.
-Get a sheet metal intake
550rwhp would be seemingly viable at this point.
I almost forgot...
Look into L92 heads. You'll need a 4" bore though to use them, but I heard in stock form they were flowing in the ball park of 320CFM, not sure about exhaust flow though. Definitely look into a pair of those because they can be had for a few hundred bucks. Don't take it as fact, just saying you could always do some research on them.
yes there are gains to be seen in the heads... but the only thing that i'd considered mismatched would be the cam.
custom grind, or a cam specific to big cube strokers.
i'm sure the guy could sell the T-rex, and use that money towards a cam better suited to the motor. it will be a lot less expensive than pulling the heads, and selling patriots for like, $800 dollars, and then having to pony up the balance on some ETPs.
