Thumbs up Engine dyno comparison - '08 Viper, '09 ZR-1, C6 Z06, LS3 Corvette

Very interesting results when you see them all compared on the same graph. Gotta love that roots style blower for its HUGE torque output.

I saw this last night, and am very confused. The torque curve looks all wrong. Perhaps some result of the new blower design? The % difference between peak torque and the torque around 2500 rpm is very large, looks like about 70 ft/lbs.

The torque also starts to fall off at 4400 rpm?

This is the graph of a maggie LS1, the torque does not begin to fall of until after 5000rpm, and the torque curve is almost flat.

Any comments on the reason why they look so different? Would an engine only dyno of an ls1 maggie look similar?

Interesting....

Sorry Viper, you're in trouble.

On a side note, why does it say the ZR-1 engine hit 600 torque when according to that graph, it clearly didn't?

The dyno you posted and the one above have different increments on the vertical and the horizontal axis. You simply can't compare them visually. Look how yours has 100 rwhp increments, and the GM dyno above has several more data points between. That makes the curve appear to 'stretch' upwards given the same distance on a graph. Think about it, if the GM dyno only had four increments and was shorter, the graphs would appear "flatter". See the altered graph below.

I love how it says "GM Confidential" on the graph.

that thing is a joke, WTH is 620+ on a supposed dyno graph and why doesn't the LS3 graph cross at 5250 like its supposed too. Torque curve of the ZR-1 looks bogus also.

lol, last time i checked the viper is putting down 550rw, andi dot think that drivetrain is that efficient, so i think this is a little biased

I knew something didn't look right, just wasn't observant enough.

The next thing I'm interested in seeing is a private party dyno after some spirited driving, as well as the IATs to see if GM really did find a way to engineer away a good bit of the heat soak problem that had been inherent in other roots blower setups.

Looks very promising, it's a very exciting time for muscle car enthusiasts.

The 2008 LS3 has a very strange HP/TQ crossing point.
Crosses at like 4800 RPM's.

well I am not a dyno expert, but all I can say is they all suck!!!!!

I don't have the money to mod my car to keep up with those

its not impossible when the RPM data points for the tq and HP are different. Youll see this occasionally...especially where an engine has either a very large gap of TQ over HP or HP over TQ. meaning if an engine has 300 tq and 550 hp (maybe a small cube NA motor spun real high) or a nitrous or turbo Tq monster when tq is like 700 ft lbs but hp only gets up to 550 or so. To fit the curves neatly on the page the computer will skew the graph...and at that point it APPEARS that hp and tq dont cross at 5252...but they do.

On this graph...i would take it with a grain of salt. Who knows how they came by the graphs of each car. this may be the best representation they could make without having all the same dyno files and plugging it into the same program from a single graph...or used different dynos and tried to make it on one page.

I would just look at the general shape, peaks, and rpm range. I do not doubt the ZR1 #s too much.

Awesome post !! Glad to see a comparison of the big boys. That ls9 zr1 looks downright scary even in comparison to the new viper. Can't wait to see the data that will be posted in the future as we get closer to the release date of the zr1 and more miles and mods are put on the new vipers. Let the battle begin.

Anyone have any guesses as to what a pully, and exhaust would do for the zr1 ??
