Default AFR 205s + A4 = 440rwhp!

Once again, Tony Mamo and his AFR 205s amazed me. I had a chance to tune an immaculate 1999 black WS6 A4 that Haddad Motorsports put together for a customer.

The (major) mods included:
AFR 205
SLP Lid
FAST 90/90 combo
228/230 Comp Cam
Racetronix 42lb Injectors
U/D Pulley
Pacesetter 1-3/4 Headers
OEM Style pup cats
custom dual exhaust
Vig2800 Converter
Stock 3.23 gears

This was done on a Dynapack Dyno. I made a baseline run (410.2 rwhp set in yellow) after tweaking the (VE and MAF) fuel tables, but the converter slip (500rpms) was too much, so I decided to continue the WOT tuning with it locked. Very impressive to say the least, I can't wait to get a set of these puppies on my car.

440.3 rwhp @ 6022 rpms
421.5 rwtq @ 4600 rpms

It depends on your wheels and tires honsetly....my rims and tires are fairly light (47 lbs each total) so when I hit a DynoJet the numbers are about the same. If you had a set of heavy aftermarket rims and tires (55-60 lbs a piece common on a 10 or 11 inch wide combo), then the DynaPack would look about 7-10 RWHP stronger because it measures power direct at the axle and variance in wheel weight doesnt come into play. On a DynoJet or any type of inertia dyno, a heavy rim/tire combo will always cost you.

My 383 dyno'ed mid 530's on A&A's DynoJet and a few months later did exactly the same on Mike Haddad's DynoPack. I really like the DynoPack (they are very expensive)....it pulls the motor down to the starting RPM and stabilizes it for the test before the sweep just like a typical flywheel engine dyno set-up....the repeatability of this dyno is extremely good...great for testing and tweaking those last few ponies if you have the time.

In fact coincidentally I spent most of the day today on that dyno tweaking the 383 one last time prior to a track day rental that was suppose to be tomorrow but was bumped till Feb. 2nd....Look for another post in this section with those results shortly.

BUT, congrats to the owner of the A4 Trans Am which I happened to see today while I was at Mike's shop. As George mentioned the car is super clean and the numbers are very impressive....I especially like how early the package makes peak power....it has alot of torque and area under the curve.

Good job by all involved....and did George mention this was on 91 octane and rumor has it also passed the sniffer!! (borderline but squeaked by is what I heard!)

Regards,
Tony

Is it just me or is 6000 an early peak for RWHP? Why so early?

Based on the customers request we tried to keep this car very streetable and pack as much power as we can everywhere (per street car daily driver spec). And Its definetly an "IMO" but 6000 for a street car is not low. Low for a race car i agree but thats another post.

Bottom line is if you can make the power with out having to take a motor to 7000 your always going to be ahead of the game.

Thanks
Mike Haddad

I'd also like to know what the LSA and ICL of the cam were, if/how much the heads were milled and what gasket. I'm in the process of installing my new AFR 205s with a 228/230 cam and would like a sneak peak at what I can expect

My cam is a 228/230-112+2, the heads are milled .024 and, I have .040 cometics.

Would love to know more about this combo. Great results!

Wow, impressive through an A4. Congrats.

I also liked the explanation on the DynoPak vs Dynojet. Thanks for that.

That is awesome. The setup is almost the same thing I have. Really everything except I don't have the heads and fast 90 but once I add it i'm looking for 420-450 rwhp. Great job
