Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! Congrats Mike. I talked to Wayne today and asked him to rag on ya for me. That car ought to roll. It's all gonna be about traction now. FWIW- There's almost always some thing left on the table depending on the source. It gives us room for improvement. You will not be disappointed in your cars performance. If someone wants to question your set up.....just drag there ass and I'll put up half the $$$. Good luck. BTW- watch out for me and the lil' lady. We'll be out on the prowl before long.;) James |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! "Final Timing was only 22 deg." That seams a little low. Is that the Total Timing at WOT? (100Kpa) These chambers are good, but not that good. Bret |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! He has a 11.7 to 1 compression and I think gets knock retard on pump gas. Thats why the timing is set at 22 I think. I also agree that the cam is too small. Add a bigger cam and take off those cats and you will be at 470+. BTW, can anyone give me details or a link to the electric water pump? |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! Mike went with this smaller cam because the Vette is his daily-driver and he wanted absolutely no drivability issues. Its also a sleeper :secret:  |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! very nice. me wants a stroker :D |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! I think that cam is entirely too small...you need some more duration. My car swallowed up a 242/242 cam and has near stock like qualities at idle (only slight rumble). With a 232/236 cam in there, you could not even tell the car had a cam! With good heads you can be making a lot more power than I am currently. Mike..take muh word..that cam is killing you in the HP department w/that 382..there's NO reason why you can't get close to 500 w/a bigger cam..hell stock cid motors with 5.3L heads and the G5X2 are putting down more power than your 382...and I'm knockin on it's door w/my stock cid motor and X1 cam. I would DEFINATLY suggest a bigger cam and since they're CAKE to change out since you've got springs there's really no reason to stick w/it. |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! 22 degrees of timing? Shit..Jayson tuned me to see between 28 and 30 degrees at WOT...Mike must be using the "I'ma put NAAWSS on it tune" for only 22degree's... ;-) |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! 22 deg due to the high compression of the motor. Heads and cam cars might make more peak hp but its all about under the curve. The new LG car that did 450 something RWHP only had 401 TQ. HP nice but Torque gets you down the 1/4 mile. Like Tony said this is my daily driver. To be honest i still think the cam is to big. |

Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! Mike how does that X1 sound? Is it tammer? I want to get a ride the next time I see you  |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! It idles smooth with just a little shake while sitting. But from behing it sounds like a freeking NASCAR! Josey ill run ya for fun. But my car doesnt hook at all until mid 2nd gear. |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! Put some ET streets on that Vette and I'll drive it against Josey  |

Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! I have a set of 16 inch ET Streets but what wheels will clear them? |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! Yes I am pretty sure they do |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! You can use a set of fbod wheels to mount the ET's. But, you will have to slightly grind the suspension mounts for clearance with any 16 inch wheel.....not a big problem. |
Re: 382 Stroker LS1 Dyno Results! Mike, I applaud you for building a combo that is right for you. Having been hot-rodding stuff for a long time now, I know the temptation to try and eek more power out of something, only to find that driveability can become a PITA. Anyway, I'm curious as to why you chose the 382. Pardon my rookie question, but I'm new(er) to LSX engines and do not know that much about the available stroker kits (advantages/disadvantages) except what all these engine builders/tuners post about (382, 387, 422, etc). When I do one, I will be more than happy with 450rwhp N/A, and I want to keep the revs sane like you did (6700rpm or so). I don't care if I make less HP/CI so long as its 100% streetable, PASSES Texas smog (which I realize right now is easy for an OBD-II car, but we'll have to pass a real sniffer soon in the metro areas), and has outstanding reliability (I'm not changing valvesprings every 10k miles, and I don't want to rings and bearings every other year either). I'm not building a race car, but I will certainly keep my 100-125hp shot of nitrous on it as well. Thanks for any insight you can offer. Sounds like you nailed it for what YOU wanted to do this time around. |
