żżż357 w/ vortec heads??? Hey I have a 350 SBC bored over .040 with vortec heads I forget what castings #s it came off of a 96 tahoe so w/e was on there... but i have the zz3/zz4 cam (112 Lobe sep, 109 IC/115 EC, 208/221 @ .050, .474/.510 with a 1.5 rocker) and edelbrock eps aluminum intake and hooker comp headers, and a carter 600cfm carb, and a stock 200-4r with 10 bolt and 3:73 gears in a 86 Monte Carlo SS that ran 8.71 with sloppy shifts because it was sliding thru gears... i dnt think that is that bad for the setup. what do you guys think?

I am rebuilding the tranny this winter and it will not slide thru gears and i will be putting in between a 2800-3600 stall and a 12 bolt is going in with either 3:73s or 4:10s
Do you think I can get 8.5s
and what do you think i can get in the quarter??

not to highjack your thread but since you seem to know a little about the old school stuff, i have a 1986 trans am that i have been playing with i threw a set of vortec heads from a 1997 305 silverado, with a 216 224 on a 110 lsa and 1.6 rockers, a edelbrock performer rpm intake, shorty headers, i hope to be pleasantly surprised by it power, but i'll probably just destroy the trans, its the stock 700r4, and stock gears,

oh and about your times from what i've read if you can follow thru you should be in the 13.50's range. not to bad. if you get that converter you could shave a few tenths, maybe low low 13.s

sounds pretty sweet i love the vortec heads u might be surprised if it weighs a lot that could cause problems and what gears do u have in it? and u never no ur 700 could last awhile jst dont be real hard on it lol

it doesnt weigh too much i think it says something like 3200, the gears are crap, 2.73's but i wasnt trying to build a racecar, i actually bought it for a beater for a friend who needed a car but then i got interested in souping it up a little and picked up a olds achieva for my buddy to beat around in. he still wants the car, even more now, so i'll let him mess with the gears or tranny if he feels like it. just wanted to get your thoughts on the engine, most people say why mess with the 305, but ehh, it was in there all ready so i just said eff it and threw a few parts on there and gave it some more *****.

heck i had a 305 on my monte and it ran good for stock but nothin like wut i have got the vortec heads are a great addition especially if you would get a 350 block and 5.7 vortec heads what fuel system is on the car

it just has a holley 650. like i said i dont really plan on messing with it too much more, if everything turns out ok i just want to sell it and concentrate on my camaro. super chevy did this exact build with a 305 and churned out 325 on a engine dyno. if i get even close i will be happy to be in lt1 territory even. then he can get some gears and a stall and roll with me and my camaro, as long as i dont push me pedal past halfway

haha well i wish mine made that much i have a baby cam and i make right over 300 to the ground with my bad tranny and junk converter but i can beat a stock lt and run with stock ls in the 1/8mile not any where else haha

well i don't know what mine will make I'm just saying super Chevy did an article and i copied their build exactly, if i get close i will be happy because it made 155 stock, so anything has to be better than that. i was talking to the friend who I'm building it for and he said maybe later we can take one of the 350's my father-in-law has laying around in these old pickups and throw the stuff from the 305 on it and see how that runs, except the 305 heads might raise the CR too high, but a set of 350 vortec heads are pretty cheap. then if he gets some gear in it bring on the LT's
