Beating a 6.1L Charger?
Hello there!
I'm looking for some people who have been in/raced a 6.1L Charger? I'm 16 and I finally got my hands on a F body, a 98 Trans Am A4. (Not a ws6, just has the Ram Air hood) there's a rich guy around here who drives a Charger with the 6.1 Hemi and everyone thinks it's the fastest thing around. He's got a programmer and possibly a CAI, I've never been in it but I know these things are heavy as heck compared to an F body. I want to be able to beat him or atleast keep pace with him, what kind of mods would I need to do? And how do you think I would fair against him stock?
Thanks guys.

Those pigs are like 1000 lbs heavier than one of our cars STOCK. Real nice cars and pwerful engines but anything Dodge comes out with is a joke because of how much they weigh. Im starting to think like that about the new camaros as well. PIGS!
You would probably take him stock.

A full exhaust with headers and tune might get you .2-.3, a stall should get you over .5 on decent tires (my car was even fast on street cars so long as you can drive and know not to just floor it).
You need some basic mods though, and your only hope until you get a good number is to go from a dig. From a roll he will roll out hard, especially if it's a 6 speed.

my buddy took one with me in his car (98 z28 with the exhaust removed meaning no cat back at all and open stock headers with no tune). Its no big deal I would think and intake and exhaust done the right way would be a skull drag. My boy put bus legnths on the srt8.

Thanks guys, yeah I figured they're not as hot as this guy makes it out to be.
Oh and should I swap out my gears? I have the 2.73's in the rear... I know most guys swap them out but would my car have enough pick up if I put full bolt ons and such even with these tall gears?

that statement is entirely dependent on TRACTION. i modded that way on my a4 car, long ago. he gets a stall and can go 1.7 now on a racetrack with drag radials. good luck trying to replicate that on the street. he will still have a car that traps low, but now he will be spinning away his launch. i know this because i've been there.
i'd much rather opt for a set of headers on a car that won't see much track time. the extra mph gained from adding full exhaust will win more races on the street. if adding full exhaust wasn't so potent on these cars i'd never suggest it over a stall. my car picked up 8 mph from adding full exhaust with no tuning and no other mods, it was a 273 car, as well.
to the op: i suggest you find a set of headers and muffler/s of your choice (or cutout). those all saying stalls are much better and will decimate from a dig obviously have not done much street racing with a basically stock stalled auto ls1 fbody. i did it A LOT and got my *** handed to me. trying to launch a stalled a4 on street tires is a joke. mine would spin from 45 mph on them.

if you wanna be cheap and hurt his feelings bad. go with freemods, a lid, some exhaust like headers and such, and a set of 3.73s and learn how to launch without havin a smoke show and he shouldnt have a chance in hell. i wouldnt go pickin on him just yet while your stock though
