First track outing next weekend....what's it's gonna run????
It's been a LOOOOOONNNGG build and there's still a few things left to do but the car has about 20-30mi of street driving on it and the time has finally come to take it to the track. I'm taking it to Mooresville next sat (11/16) to make some test passes. I was thinking of bringing it to DR but I'm much closer to Mooresville and I'd probably get more passes in on a TNT day. So what's everybody think it's going to run??? This is my first LS build so I don't really know what to expect but I'm thinking high 6's to low 7's. Here's the details:
Cam only LQ9 (polluter cam from Tick Performance, don't remember the specs), Vic jr intake, 850 quick fuel carb, powerglide w/ Greg Slack 5500 stall (7.7in), 4.56 gears w/ spool, 325/50/15 MT drag radials. I haven't weighed the car yet but I'm guessing around 2900ish w/ driver.
I'm not sure where I'll try to leave at RPM wise, but I guess I'll give it all the track will take. It will go up to 5700 on the brake, I'll probably foot brake it a few times first then keep upping the rpm to see what it likes. I'm shifting it at 6800. Guess away

I'll guess.. 6.70@102-103.. 1.50 60'...
If you can get it in the low 1.40 60's (which it should easily do) , prolly run some 6.50s. This all assuming a good track, decent DA and everything right on the car.

It was a rollercoaster day with the car but in the end it ran a number I was happy with. Here's the breakdown.
Run:
1-Flashed off idle, 7.2 at 94. 1.6 60ft and didn't spin. Mph seemed a little low to me but I was happy that it went straight and I felt it had more left in it.
2- transbrake to 4k, spun 7.4 at 94, 1.75ft
3, 4, and 5- Bogged and went flat all the way through 1st gear then cleaned up at the end of the track. No good times. Determined it was the fuel was getting too hot. We rerouted some fuel lines and let it cool down. This was also the first time we popped the hood at the track and realized we had left that small 6in diameter air filter on it that I had put on just to keep stuff from falling in the engine. Took it off and ran it with no filter. It's hard to believe that air filter was worth 6mph on the next pass.
6, 7, and 8- 6.73, 6.71, 6.77 all at 101, mid 1.4x 60fts leaving around 5k off the trans brake.
Once I had it figured out it ran fairly consistent and smooth passes. It pulls both front tires about 4-5in off the ground and carries them a few feet and goes straight. I'm crossing the finish line at 7k so I'm not going to be able to spray it until I change the gear, tighten up the stall, or both. I think with a little more tweaking and seat time I can get 1 or 2 more tenths out of it. My brother in law got some good videos and will get them up on youtube tonight or tomorrow. I'll post them up once he does.
