They added 150 more pages, and 150 billion more dollars and it passed. $850 billion dollars was poof there to buy up bad loans, and bad securities. WHO PAYS. That's right "Joe the plumber". Let's face the facts either politician elected president Republican or Democrat will certainly be raising taxes.

Another thing that upset me. I was talking politics with one of my African American friends. I asked him if he watched the debate. He replied yes, yes I did. I asked who he was voting for. He said Barack Obama. I asked him why he felt he was a good choice to run the country. His reply was "Us ****** got to stick together" Now I'm not racist, and I feel that this is a huge problem with this election. A lot of people are voting for wrong reasons. Republican and Democrat. My own sister is voting this year, only reason she is voting for McCain is because she wants to see a woman as Vice President. Come on, these are reasons to cast a vote?????

you are aboslutley right. People this time around are voting for ALL the wrong reason. African americans are voting for Obama cause hes african american. Whites are voting for McCain cause he's white. Women are voting for Mccain cause of Palin. Most of the time these people have NO IDEA why they are voting for these people other then those reasons. Its really tragic and shows how racist and segregated this country is.

The only way for there to be no raise in taxes is if billions of dollars in federal spending were cut. Most people dont even realize there are things we spend more on this country then the Iraq war. They dont realize we spend more on Illegal immagrants then we do on the war.

Im an Independent and ill be voting for Ron Paul (even though im basically throwing away a vote). He has fantastic ideas for this country

maybe the right plan for your working class family NOW would be to sell that extravegant car so you wouldnt have to rely on the government putting more money in your pocket.

Tax rates are already low and at a good level because of the bush tax cuts. they arent going to be cut anymore even if obama is elected.
Ha, now I've heard it all. I shouldn't be able to own a car?? Are you for real? Is your girlfriend/ wife typing this for you? Give me a break.
You don't know me or what I do or how I do it. But you're comfortable giving me advice on my finances?
You say "not to be a dick", well guess what.................!
I hesitated responding in this thread because there is ALWAYS one guy who thinks he has all the answers. I thought this was a discussion, now this guy is telling me to sell my car, oh brother. I already OWN the car, don't owe a dime on it.

I said Obama's plan seems to work right for the needs are now.
I do fall in the $100+ category but way less than $250 so his plan seems right for me.

If I made over 300k I'd probably vote for McCain. Like I said-thought this was a discussion, thanks for the personal attack-appreciate it.

Let's just keep this a discussion based thread. I was skeptical opening this thread because politics can get out of control sometimes. I live with my mother personally, I'm 21 and Obama plan would help her out as she about half of what she makes taken, so this would help her out. Although it seems great I do like the idea, but just think of all the money the government is taken from these people, and now that means less money generated into the government.

Oil companies do not own those 68 million acres. They simply lease them from the Government, allowing the Government final control of the land. Those 68 million acres are like a haystack with a needle, but the only tool the oil companies can use to find the proverbial needle is a set of tweezers. Meanwhile, right next to the haystack is a pile of needles that the oil companies aren't allowed to touch.

There is much more profitable land, the Democrats have been using the 68 million acres line to scare people and make it seem like the oil companies have a ton of land they're not using and just attempting to hoard more land with oil on it. Simply not true, if it costs 10 billion to explore the 68 million acres and only 11 billion of oil is available there; that's an obvious no go. If there is land right next door that costs 5 billion to explore, and 500 billion worth of oil is available, I'd want that land too.

took the words right off my key-board

The Dems have been incontrol of the puse strings and budget for the last 2 years, 2 years ago it wasn't this bad.

I look at the whole thing like this: Mccain is so old, that there's a chance that he may not live to the end of a 2nd term, and the thought of Palin having the ability to launch an ICBM, is just down right scary.

Obama, As much as some of the things that he wants done scare me as well, changing the system, and aiming to help people that are making a combined income of less then 250K, or 125K individually, is what needs to happen in this country.

We need to stop doing what the government/rich of this country have been doing for years (I put them both in the same group, becuase without $ you aren't getting elected) putting the load on the working man.

I say flat rate tax, everyone pays the same, and there is zero deductions period. Next in line: flat rate social security, no cap. So that way people like CEO's and baseball players will pay on every cent they make, not just the first day's pay for the year. That, and at the retirment age, whatever it is, if your net worth is over X amount (looking back for 15 years, so they can't just give it to the kids and then hav the kids give it back) then you are excluded, you can not collect social security.

Do that, and people like me won't even have to save for retirment anymore, social security's check every month will be almost as much as we were making when we retired.

Agreed, and if a person does not contribute, they cannot collect.

Yeah that too. If you don't contribute for at least X amount of time, say 20 years you can not collect. Unless you become disabled, but that's a different situation as well.

Bottom line, the thing could be rewritten to benefit the system greatly, just a matter of getting a congress and a president with enough ***** to put the screws to the rich a little bit.

But wait, then they won't get reelected because noone will finance their re-election.

Nice system that's set up, it's designed so the have's will continue to have, because only those that have can be put into place to make the rules.

And now with the government getting involved with the banks, well let's see, what does that remind me of? Oh yeah that's right, SOCIALISM! Yeah that really works well doesn't it, I think history probably can already tell us what is gonna happen by the fed getting into all the big banks, nothing good.

While a flat tax would take out the complications of the system, it wouldnt really help. the rich would pay less and the poor would pay more. Tax rates for families earning between 16,000 - 65,000 the tax rate is 15%. On families earning over 357,000 the tax rate is 35 percent. So, to have a flat tax, the rate would have to come in the middle somewhere. Meaning, less tax on the rich, more on the poor.

Caps on social sec are ok. Those people earning in excess of 100,000 dont receive benefit payments based on their income. They will not get benefit payments higher then what they contributed. Benefit payments are calculated using a history of earnings. Their history of earnings do not exceed the cap.

The biggest thing that needs to be enacted is the privatization of social security. anyone who thinks this is a bad idea is INSANE. Our funds that we contribute should be protected and no government should be able to borrow from them. They are effectively stealing from us. Even if its 50% privatized, it would be better then nothing because that money will be guaranteed to be there when you retire.

Regulation of the market is an unnecessary evil. Socialism is a very bad thing, just look at the european market. Unfortunatley the corruption and greed in America has grown to sickening levels. A huge reason we are in this economic mess is beacuse of the compensation methods of the banking industry. Rather then just getting paid salary, loan offices and higher ups get paid a commission on the amount of loans that close. As shown this proved to be an absolute disaster. Loan officers were signing off on huge loans for people who had no chance in paying them back. all they cared about what the huge commission check they were cashing every month.

This is why SOME regulation is necessary. The government needs to protect the american people from getting raped by Wall street. Neither democrats nor republicans did this and they are all to blame

News flash it wasnt afforable housing! Now to top it off Obama/Biden want to give thousands of dollars to these families with these subprime loans to help pay off their mortgage? Are you kidding? What responsible individual goes out and gets a loan for a house that they can just barely afford and on top of it takes a variable rate? News flash if rates spike your screwed! Now we are going to reward them by giving them money to pay down their mortgage? How come im not getting money towards my mortgage? Is it because I was responsible and got a nice but modest house I could afford at a fixed rate? That makes sense reward the irresponsible! Also, lets elect a president that has been tied to individuals who have been linked to terrorist groups. I love how that gets brushed under the rug however if McCain were ever to be remotely linked to a dispicable organization like the KKK he would be lambasted and wouldnt even be running for office right now. I could go on and on but its not even worth it. McCain isnt the ideal candidate, but I am voting for him by default because Obama shouldnt even be on the ballot. I am a republican by nature but if the democrats put a Biden/Clinton or Clinton/Biden ballot out there I would certainly consider it but Obama? WTF?

See I find it scary that thats what a lot of Americans are basing their vote on...the off chance McCain wouldnt survive 4 years. Also, Obama may claim to be helping middle america but where is this money going to be coming from? We have a $700 Billion bailout which is going to cause inflation, its not going to solve unemployment (even Paulison said its a short term solution and that a mass economic overhaul is needed) so therefore more money will be going out the window to unemployment as the rates rise, and then we are going to cut taxes...so where is all this money going to come from?

Very well said.

Sort of reminds me of a quote i read in Bill O'rielly's new book. His father told him " i vote for the candidate that will do the least amount of damage to the country". This election is a PERFECT example of that. Sure Barrack Obama is well spoken and "inspires" the public. But he really could be a very bad thing for this country, voting for him is very very risky. McCain isnt great, but its a safer vote

i will agree with this statement....

The rich rule this nation, and any nation for that matter, and the ones who are ruling will generally speaking always do things to benefit themselves.

we need a leader who is willing to sacrifice himself and his "class" aka the rich for this nation. which i dont think either of them will, but obama will more likely then mccain.

is ralph nadar running?

Exactly everyone thinks we need a major overhaul of the government, which isnt going to happen and could actually cause more harm than good. Plus, in all reality the amount of change that either candidate will be able to impose is quite limited in scope, which is a good thing. I just get ticked when i hear people voting for Obama on the off chance McCain dies. That just doesnt make sense and in all honestly id rather have a female with Palin's experience whom sticks to her guns (like her or hate her) than Obama whom is just feeding everyone what they want to hear. Even his running mate doesnt think he is qualified. Google or search on youtube one of Biden's initial positions on Obama when he was being considered as a Democratic Party candidate. He was quoted as saying the Obama should not be considered for the Democratic ballot....what does that tell you...Lastly the thing I hate most is that when I tell people im not voting for Obama half of the time it turns into a race thing and that im not voting for him because he is black...bullshit im not voting for him because he is unqualified...period. I hate when the race issue is thrown in, leave that to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, dont muck up the presidential election with that crap.

There's not enough time and space to type all the reasons Obama is wrong for this country.
One of the biggest reasons came out of his own mouth. As he stood in front of 'Joe the plumber' and said "we need to spread the wealth around."
That should scare the HELL out of EVERYBODY.
Notice he never used that phrase during the debate?
Additionally, why is it everyone overlooks his relationship with Ayers? The guy was a DOMESTIC TERRORIST!!!!!!!!
What if McCain was hangin wit Timothy McVey? (sp) You know, the guy that bombed the FBI building in Ok.????
HE SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ALLOWED TO RUN!!!!!!! LET ALONE WIN!!!!!!!!!
EVERYONE THAT VOTES FOR NOBAMA NEEDS THEIR HEAD EXAMINED.
I'm not racist. If he were white I'd be pissed. If he were purple, same deal.
Every McCain commercial should start with that shot of Obama standing there with his hands down, as everyone else had their hand over there heart during the national anthem. Worthless POS! And this is the man THE MAJORITY wants representing America???????? WOW!!!

Anyhoo, back to the debate...I don't think either of them won. I don't think there was a clear winner in any of their three debates. Obama is very cool under pressure, almost too cool, he could stand to show a little more emotion. McCain looks like he's trying not to blow a gasket sometimes. The VP debate was way more interesting. Biden is a great speaker and debater and Palin did way better than anyone thought she would. Made for great TV. Honestly I don't see how anyone on either side is really fired up for either of these guys.
