Question Getting a Roll Bar installed???

I wanted to see what options I have for getting a 6-point roll bar installed in my SS(swing outs vs no swing outs, bolt-in vs. weld-in, etc). I pretty set on having it done in Chromoly to keep the weight down. I want some folks opinions on getting a custom roll bar done or just buying something like the Wolfe Race Craft bolt-in or weld in roll bars. I also wanted to see what shops in the area I should check out for custom fab/installations.

PS - if you have any pics of you roll bar installed, post them up!

I had a wolfe bolt in 6 point. I really liked it. Sold to to do a 10 point. I have both swing outs and the low slung door bars. Fit very well and was actually easy to get in and out of with the door bars in place. I will have to look for some of pics

I finally had my Wolfe 6pt. CM bar installed last winter. I ******* hate it! The rearview mirror is useless now, the swing out pivot is HUGE and I can see breaking an ankle on it, and the fit is so-so out of the box. If your car is mostly a street ride I wouldn't do it or just get a bolt in bar so you can take it out. IMO it really took the fun out of street driving the car.

However, if you do go ahead have a weld in bar done, definitely do a custom setup so the fabricator can taylor it to your car and you will most likely avoid my problems. I recommend Tyson at PAF for custom work. He installed mine and made it much better than it came from Wolfe but if I did it again I would have him do a custom. It would be cheaper and fit much better than buying a Wolfe then paying for installation and fixes for various shortcomings inherent in cookie cutter cages. Good luck whatever your decision,

Larry

You think your rear view is useless with a 6 point try a 10 point. Even a PAF 10 point has crappy use of the rear view. Not sure about there 6 point.

They fit of my bolt in was nice. Maybe be the difference between your weld in and my old bolt in.

If your doing a 6 point I would just do a bolt in. Remember if you if you go to a 10 point later you will have to cut the door bars off the 6 point. Also the 6 point uses a larger diameter bar than you need for a 10. If you think you might go 10 point down the road or you would sell car I would do a bolt in 6 point.

However if you are looking for a nice custom done roll bar I would go to PAF also. They are nice guys and do great work

get a custom. i used to install S&W roll cages. but affter a while the quality wasn't there. so i started bending them myself. custom is def the way to go. doesn't really cost anymore once you buy a kit get it shipped and pay someone to weld it in.

Get a custom 6 point from PAF. Tyson won't be as cheap as a Wolf but the fit and finish and quality will be much better. You won't be disappointed if you go with a PAF 6 point.

I just had a 6 point installed with removable swingouts from a place called MTK's Welding & Fabrication in NJ I was always trying to not get one installed untill the local tracks really started hammering me late last year,so I figured if I was gonna race anymore it might be best to get one. I'm a pretty big guy and am still able to get in and out of the car without to many problems. I kept going back and forth wether to have the rear cross bar removable, I decided to do it right once and just went solid as it should be, also its cromoly.

IMO...Do yourself a favor you will thank me later,.. and get one installed from a good reputable place.

Get one fabbed to the car by a local guy. I wouldn't even bother with the swingouts, honestly they don't make life that much better.

Plus, if you get out of the car and lean on that swingout bar by mistake, you could bend/tear the floorboard where the plate is welded to it. Making for a mess, and a costly repair.

Weld in one is stronger, and like I said once you're used to climbing in the car head first and out *** first it's not that bad.

I totally disagree with this about swingouts. If it is a street car then you take the swingouts completely out when you are driving it on the street, then you have no side bar to worry with.

Exactly I leave the door bars out of my 10 point when I am driving it on the street. I only put them in when I go to the track.

Yup, me too. It's the only way to go for a street car.

I like JL's cage because it's entertaining to watch him climb in and out of it.

I would not cheap out on a roll-bar/ cage. I would never put a bolt-on one in a car. It's in there to save your *** if you ever roll the car at the track. I say spend your money on a well made custom bar and skip the swingout. they only make it weaker. The bars are in there for your protection they are not there to look cool or make the track happy.
